    Hello

I am replacing the rear main seal that was internally leaking on my Mondial T. It was already a new style seal but maybe it got damaged during the install since I didn't used a cone at that time.

I ordered a new one from a reputable UK parts supplier and got a first exemple with several lips defect/damage:

And I got a replacement and the new one is much better but there is still a dent on the gearbox lip and almost all the way through the grooves:

So I dont know if I am overthinking it but since I already experienced a leak and very luckily cought it on time and I would think it is quite sensible and not acceptable..

Do you have already seen such defaults and still mounted these seals?

    Thanks

Pic 1 and 2 look ok, the flaw is not on the sealing surface. 3, 4, and 5 have the flaws on the sealing rim that is key.

As an aside, I am not sure about the Mondial t, but on the my Mondial 3.2 the rear main seals are made by Cortico and are the brown viton. Maybe other 348/MondiT people can confirm if there are viton seals for this application. In my experience, some suppliers seem to supply older buna rubber seals, others have the viton. Or perhaps some viton is also black. For all the effort to replace the seal you want the best that is available in modern materials.

The quality of that seal looks pretty bad. I would recommend getting a replacement seal from a different vedor/manufacturer.

The brown Viton Cortico seals are the oem seals. I would get one of them if you can.
