    348 gurus:

I have 360 wheels on my 348 but I've removed the rear wheel before without any issue. Today, trying to replace the battery and after I removed all 5 lug nuts, the wheel is just stuck on. I yanked on it but would not budge one bit.

Please help and thank you in advance for your help.

Make sure that the car is firmly supported on jack stands after removing all lug nuts.

Then, simply give the tire a hard, swift kick to shock the wheel loose from the hub.

I'm sure a certain amount of galvanic corrosion has taken place, and brute force is required to dislodge it.

    This is actually fairly common.

    IMHO - a couple choices:
    1) Use a rubber mallet around the tire. Good, hard hits. I've seen garages wail on the tire with a sledge. That makes me cringe. I don't recommend this.
    2) Easier - from the jack with lugs off: lower the car a smidge. don't put the car down, but just enough weight and you should hear the seal break.

Then check the spacer & rim. You'll probably have oxidation between them where they touched. Clean it & either a wax or some synthetic like 22PLE or on old cars, I've used a very very light coating of grease applied on the hub where the metals touch by hand wiping the excess off.

OMG Joe (assuming that is your name), you are such a life saver... kicked it a few times and was able to get the wheel off.

Your quick response was perfect timing and my frustration and blood level has settled to normal :)

Thanks again and I owe you one!

All of you guys are awesome!

There's fairly quite a good amount of corrosion - should I get out my dremmel tool and get rid of as much rust as possible? I'm assuming yes but just wanted to make sure if you guys do something better.

I was always advised not to completely remove all of the wheel bolts/lug nuts but to loosen them off so they were still held on by a couple of threads, that way when you kick the wheel it can break loose but not fall off the car (and possibly onto your foot/leg).

dremel, steel wool, scotch brite pad, sandpaper. Anything with a little textture to clean up the hub and the inner part of the wheel where they touch. I usually put a quick smear of anti sieze around lip of the hub and you wont have issues in the future.

No worries Julian. Glad to be of assistance. Hope the remainder of your repair progresses smoothly.

Good point Phil...will remember to include that bit of info in the future.

Yes - good advice. This happened with my BMW until I put anti-seize on the hub :)

I once kicked a stubburn wheel loose on a car. Kind of a casual back heel kick that worked, but i caught the rim and regretted it instantly :(. Two years of flipping Plantar Fasciitis heel pain, dont wish that on anyone.......well apart from a certain mod :)

I had a friend that had a flat with a BMW. He beat and kicked it on the side of the road and it wouldn't come loose. In desperation, he loosened the lugs and drove it a few feet and it finally let go. BMW's are notorious for this as the rotor fits very snug on the wheel. I always take a wire brush to the rotor and put a bit of anti sieze on the lugs and rotor/wheel mating surface.
