I had planned on a nice long father’s day weekend with great weather and plenty of cruising in the 348. But then while headed out yesterday, I went to adjust my rearview mirror on the windshield and it came off in my hand! I’ve done this drill with other cars before, but this mirror is unlike any other I’ve encountered. Unlike other mirrors, there is no removable metal bracket that the mirror slides onto. Rather, the back of the mirror is deteriorating rubber with what seems to be the remnants of some sort of adhesive patch left on my windshield. As such, the autozone glue kits don’t work. Anyone else tackle this problem? Any thoughts appreciated.

If I remember correctly The mirror in the 348 is the same as in a Porsche 914. At least the base is anyway. I just happen to have one of those adhesive mirror pads in my collection of goodies. If you want it PM me your address and I'll ship out to you tomorrow. Happy Fathers Day!:)

Cut the rubber pad of with a utility knife. Then go to Wal-Mart and buy some Permatex rear view mirror adhesive. http://www.permatex.com/products/industrial/adhesives_sealants/specialty/Permatex_Rearview_Mirror_Adhesive.htm Mark the glass on the outside with a crayon where the old glue is located, then clean off the old glue on the inside with a razor. Follow the instructions on the back of the Permatex package for applying the adhesive. Since there is no button be prepared to feel the burn holding up the mirror. :D

Used gorilla glue on mine. Held it up with painters tape and an adjustable pole with padding on both sides. Works fine so you can let it set overnight

Go up to LFSC. The adhesive is only a few $'s.

Thanks a million Jon! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've been swamped at work. Your generosity may prompt a new thread entitled "copterjon to the rescue!" Thanks again. Let me know what I can send you from Chi-town.
