When will somebody reproduce some of these parts that are so hard to get. I need a front grille for a 348 and I heard that prices are close to $900 for a new one. I was tempted and might still do it, take it to clients machine shop and see about producing 50 of them. I can't believe they couldn't be fabricated for alot less. Anybody have a machine shop with any thoughts???

I priced a wiper arm, both of mine are busted thinking of spot tacking it, couldn't somebody fabricate 100 pairs or is it to cost prohibitive that makes the part from Ferrari ($400) more economical.

Daniel is making those folding targa tops, thats a great idea.

What about these seat belt mechanisms, couldn't someone remanufacturer those, they would sell alot.

I have a bent up front grille somebody can use as a template, they can have if they can try to machine others??

Anyone reproducing that small spoiler present on a 348 challenge?????

Anybody aware of any remanufacturers for some of this stuff.

There are some replicas available for the fiero, mr2 replicas of 348. Maybe any kit replicates it good enough that the part will fit. I only know for the 355 bumper. But they are made of plastic not aluminium or metal.
But i would ask direct at ferrari first. Because everytime i look for cheap new parts on the internet ebay, and so on then check the ferrari price ... ferrari was on each part 50% cheaper.. f.e. 355 front side frame substructure on ebay over 200$ ... ferraris price 85$ :) Or Taillight 355 replicas same price then genuine from ferrari , .....

How do you contact Ferrari directly? Is it through a local mechanic or is there a phone number / website to order parts from? I think you can get remanufactured 348 bumpers (I have seen them advertised from Ferrariads.com and the FCA newsletter). You can have custom plastic parts made if they are basically flat panels with cutouts and markings. There is a picture of one someone got made for their Mondial for around $70 for the center console plate. Otherwise, I think you douls get a local metal shop to fabricate a front grill for the 348 for a few hundred dollars. When are you going to post some pictures of this project car??? Many of us are dying to see what you managed to get for under $7k.

I just took some, they are in the camera, now they need to get inside the computer. Then I need to read how to post them on a forum. Been busy working on it several late nights and early mornings invested working on it.
I am in the process of getting a new fuse box, mine had corrosion, I suspect alot of these cars have this problem and people don't realize it. Big Daddy looks like mine, except mine was worse. Also starting to order some parts.
I have not decided which direction to go yet, I have been told getting the car running is easy, the hard part is the HVAC and ABS, they say there expensive.

I just bought the front grill to convert for a front plate holder (yup, it blows but the yokles won't let it go). Wasn't that bad. I'll post the order info...maybe that will help you in your search.

I will take a look at my grill and see if I can reasonably reproduce it.

You should resize the pictures to 640x480 using Magic Image Resizer or a similar program that is free to download. Then when you make a post, click on manage attachments, browse for the pictures, the hit upload, and you will see the list of pictures below the text box.

I just pulled the grille off my 348 (2 screws) to have a look at how it is made. Personally, I think I could make one of these grilles that would look about 98% similar to the original grille, using material from the local hardware store, in just a few hours, at a cost of less than $25.

    1) Sammy's idea if I want to chase it out of Germany

    2) www.italianauto.com Butch is the owner, he wasn't in but she looked it up and I think she said around $325.00 for a repro. Thats pretty good considering there is a used one on ebay for BIN $750

    3) I even thought about trying to make or have someone make 30 of them for me, and selling them for around $300 each. Daniel said if someone reproduced it with the ability to mount the emblem right on it you might have a winner. The big thing is, you might sell 10 of them and sit on rest for a few years. I think its best left up to someone who can market the thing like Ricambi. I think I am going to order the reproduction from Butch. I will post a pic of it so you can see what I got. My car isn't worth the oem part. I think there is money to be made in the reproduction parts business. The hurdle is your marketing a few parts inefficiently. I think the thing to do is manufacturer a part and get on a vendor's side like, Ricambi. He has the marketing savy, and ability to represent it. Let him determine what the parts worth as a repro and what he can pay for it so its good for him. Then decide if you can produce it, and it pays off. I think keeping my 348 on the road and my other family chores pretty much does my time in. Sure wish someone made a cheaper grade repro carpet set, don't think I need wilton's.

    Dale

Hey, what about the 348 front Challenge spoiler, anyone up on a repro part supplier for that thing, bet its expensive OEM.

Perhaps you thought I was kidding in my earlier post about the grille. It's made of simple 1/8" flat aluminum stock, painted black. I checked at my local Lowes store, and I can buy a piece of 1/8 x 1 x 96" aluminum, enough to do all three horizontal pieces, for $10.98. A piece of 1/8 x 1 x 36, enough to do all five vertical pieces, is $5.28. Add a dollar for a couple of right-angle brackets (or make them from scrap). Add $5.00 for a can of black spray paint.

Each of the pieces on the original grille is 5/8" wide. If you wanted the new grille to match the old one, you would just need to lay the old piece on the new piece of stock, scribe out the outline, and cut it on the bandsaw, then smooth it out with a sander. If you wanted the front edge of each piece to be rounded over, it would take a bit of extra work with a file - personally, I wouldn't bother unless I was trying for a concours look.

You would have to cut a number of 1/8" slots to fit the horizontal and vertical pieces together. Not difficult.

I think I might make one, just for fun. It ain't fancy, it's just hacked out of stock!

SOLD, okay I am going to try it myself......this is great, another fchatter saving me money again. Last week I learned something else that was worth a couple of hundred dollars to me. Since it will be awhile before my car hits the road, I have time to try.

Is that grille flat if you layed it on a counter? I can't tell because mine is mangled up. Also the other question that came to mind you answered:

"If you wanted the front edge of each piece to be rounded over, it would take a bit of extra work with a file - personally, I wouldn't bother unless I was trying for a concours look."

By the way, my local metal shop has the 5/8 stock available.

    thanks

Why not just reproduce one in plastic? I could do it in plastic and sell it at around 100-150$ each, you wouldnt be able to see the difference. If I had a good mold I could reproduce one this weekend, spray it black and your ready to go.
