Well, I had five years without one big issue, so maybe my time is up. The last few times I drove the car, it ran very well but seemed to "guess" a little now and then at idle. I figured maybe the MAF had some dirt on it? Well, just now, it refused to start, smelled badly of gasoline, then kicked over for a second at which point it ran on one bank and grey smoke came out of the right exhaust. I shut it down immediately and the smoke continued to come out at a reduced volume for 8-10 minutes. Bad coil, maybe? Tell me it's that simple! Aaaahhhhh!
Absolutely could be a bad coil, although I'm guessing a crank sensor or ignition module is probably more likely. As Ernie said, check for spark and then follow the specified diagnostic procedure on the faulty bank. Hopefully nothing too expen$ive...
Thanks, guys. I was going to take it to a show tomorrow, but I guess the 993 is going now. I want to put the hill flange/TO bearing in, so maybe this is a good "while I'm in there" excuse
