Whilst changing the tyres just recently, I was amazed to see that about half the wheel lugs / bolts were rusting and the chrome plating had flaked off. Presumably a previous attack by an air wrench?

Is the problem known? Is it a weakness? Are there better quality lugs, or is it solely due to past mistreatment?

Probably a from the person (s) who have been installing/removing them. Probably cheapest to just have them rechromed. Replacements are not cheap.

Yea, the factory chrome doesn't last forever...

Follow the Harley guys over to the plater and tell them to do it right!

When I had the 30k done on my 328, my mechanic had the lug bolts sent out to be re-chromed. They turned out great & was much cheaper than new ones - I want to say it cost $100 or so.
