I've noticed that all the 348's I've looked at [mostly spiders] have a rubber "boot" under the shift gate that fits the shift lever and covers up the mechanisim beneath. My 91 348 ts does not, and it looks to me like it should. Is mine just missing, or was this a feature of later cars? Thanks for any info.

My 89 has a foam piece that covers the mechanicals (no boot).

It was added to the later cars. You can go get one at the dealer.

I own a 89 348 and hated the foam in the shifter, does not look right. You can and get the rubber insert and take the foam out. The foam in there looks small but when you take it out it's huge. I also replaced the shift gate with a chrome one instead of the polished steel one that comes with the car. To install the rubber boot is very simple and easy and gives the gated shifter more of a clean look.
