    Hi all,

I am re-directing my post here because some of you may have the same concern as I do about your 348 Speciale. I would appreciate anyone's input, whether you are a Speciale owner or not.

    I have a 1992 348 Speciale tb (red/black) produced April, 1992.

My Speciale, I would think, is supposed to have the claimed "312" (or "310) horsepower, but I just learned from Ferrari North America that it doesn't.

Now all Speciales are supposed to be the same. Indeed the Speciale brochure, of which I have a copy, indicates 312 horsepower, a free-flow exhaust system, and revised gear ratios.

But I was curious about whether my Speciale had all these revisions because my tachometer does not go to 7700 RPMs.

Observe the two attached pages, which 348 engine spec sheets. The first is from a 1992 technical manual, and the second is from a 1994 technical manual. (Never attached anything before, so I hope this works. Notice the slight differences in the engine.

So I wrote a letter to Ferrari NA, which was delivered on 11 March 2004. They never responded, so I called on Thursday and spoke to a guy, who did some research. He just left a message for me today that mine "is an early car that has the 300 horsepower engine." I am now wondering whether I have the free-flow exhaust and/or the revised gear ratios.

Is this for real? I mean, I bought my car (a month ago) because it was a Speciale. And I did PLENTY of research and nit-picking. I'm a little pis-ed that it's NOT really a Speciale. I suppose I have some more research to do... Any comments?

My tach redlines closer to 7400 than 7700, so I guess I got the 300 HP engine. Gezz I wish I didn't read this post!

well ya never know, Raymond, because Ferrari probably didn't even bother to change the tach! Who knows...

A 348 Spider owner would be able to tell us whether he has a tach with a 7700 RPM redline or the same old ~7500 RPM redline tach that our 348s have...

The special was not all it was cracked up to be. Most did not deliver on the promise of higher hp. It was pretty much a trim package made to help spark interest in the car. There were lots of 348's not selling because of bad reviews, and the fact that the NSX was all the rage at the time.

Ferrari made the special for the US and the Competionze for Europe.

Still the swettest looking of the 348's though!!

    damn NSX--

look at the rear tail lights of an NSX: the EXACT same light scheme as the 348!

Did Ferrari build the 348 Speciale at the factory or did they simply retrofit units already on the ground in North America? Thanks.

An engine number under my engine deck lid closely matches the engine family of 300 HP, according to the papers you posted. So I'm convinced it's not 310

I don't have my car with me, Raymond, but can you tell me exactly where to look?

    What are your numbers?

sorry to hear... maybe we can get a group of people together and make a serious inquiry to Ferrari as to why our cars are not equipped the way they were advertised to be equipped.

Again, I am wondering whether our cars have the reised gear ratios and the sport exhaust...
