Checking for a fellow speciale owner. See the arrow in the photo.. apparently this black part is called a "beauty cover". Does anyone have a part number for this part? Is it unobtanium? Anyone ever lost one to replace it with something? Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Close up of the part you are talking about? In looking closely at mine, if unobtainable, maybe a talented metal crafter can reproduce? Image Unavailable, Please Login
yep that's the part. I'm not near my car right now but was going to see how it comes off and maybe it will be able to be machined. THOUGH I'm half afraid to take it off for fear of it becoming loose and *I* join the guy looking for the part... The other part that reminds me of this is the fog light screw covers. Haven't looked to see if they are available but I bet they are pricey too.
Daniel , LOL.. i kinda thought that was going to be my answer after I look at when I get back from NC tonight. Assuming you guys don't have a source for them?
I believe Dino aka ingenere who can usually be found in the Az. section had some of these made up many years ago. Not sure if he has any left but they were spot on perfect. I believe they were made of a hard plastic.
I may have a set or 2 left that I had made up (just in case something happened to the originals). Back in the day, they really weren't available separately. They were supposed to be part of the entire group, which consisted of: Grill light spacers end caps chrome horse That group was also virtually impossible to obtain.... even if you had a SS.
Thanks.. I've seen the spacers on ebay recently in my search. The end caps are what he really needs... BUT he may consider the whole package. PM sent.
I think my end caps are welded to the piece that runs across the top of the lamps. Mine rattles a bit, and I'm thinking one of the welds popped. I'll dig into it when I do the major. The SS has some hard to find bits. I'm still looking for the Black-painted formed metal piece of trim that goes around the hole in the bolster for the lap belt. I just *HAD* to have those flashy carbon seats... Now I may always have a car that is missing 1 piece, until I break down and make one myself.
If the end caps are original and correct, they are actually bolted in place. They use the same holes that mount the grill.
Thanks for the tip Dino! I'll give it a good look for sure. I probably didn't know what I was looking at. I was just looking for the noise. Cheers!
