How many nero & tan 348 spiders were produced by Ferrari. Would be interested to know and in particular carpet colour and softtop cover colour.

I want to say the total number of 348 Spiders was around 3500 for all years. Of those, Rossa Corsa is definitely most popular so that accounts for most of them. There is some information in "Original Ferrari V8", but I don't think it breaks it down by color. As an owner of a Black/Tan 348 Spider, I've speculated before. I usual get myself to a number around 750-1250 (for all years).

This is all from (distant) memory, so maybe someone else has some hard numbers or a better source. Either way, that color/car is fairly rare.

Ooops! I just checked my memory against the information on QV500.com regarding the number of 348 Spiders produced and they list a total number for all years of just over 1000, including right-hand drive cars. That would put the number of black/tans down in the few hundred range.

It's all starting to come back to me - and they say I'm too young to be senile. I still don't have a source that breaks it down by color, so it's only a guess. Also, I've never seen anything on carpet/soft top colors.

As for me, mine's Black/Tan with Tan carpet and a black top. I would suspect that this is the most common Black/Tan combination.

Interesting, do you have the G or H spec engine?

That's an interesting question - I don't know. What's the difference? I believe my car was one of the earlier Spiders because, according to the door jamb tag, it was completed in Oct. '93, even though it is a '94 model.

Did the G vs. H spec engine spec change at some definite point in production, or was it a random thing (like the clutches) where you'll never know what a particular car is equipped with until you open it up and take a look?

Interestingly enough, my car also seems to have an incredible transmission - it will drop right into 2nd even ice cold and shifts smoothly at all times - no double clutching, etc. required. I had a 328 before and it certainly wasn't that way, and I've not heard of any other 348's that are like this. How is yours? I was wondering if a certain group of 348's was equipped this way, either intentionally or by complete random chance?

Here is some info concerning the "H" spec engine, readily id by the larger plenum. In stock format the engine is rated at 320bhp, with sports exhaust and improved air intake flow, the engine performs exceptionally well.

The GTB/GTS was introduced in March 1994 in Geneva. This model was never sold in North America, but was available in most, if not all, other markets (Europe, Japan, etc.). It had "348 GTB" or "348 GTS" badging on the rear decklid, and Speciale paint with chrome Cavallino's. I suspect, but cannot confirm, that it probably carried over the other Speciale improvements that were used on the CH and Spider (although the increased track width was not carried over, with some of these cars going into the Challenge series). It also had the "H" version engine, with longer intake manifolds, and possibly some fuel delivery modifications. This engine never went into North American cars.

Hmmm. Given that information, I'd have to say mine has a G spec engine, since it's a US car.

I've never seen an H spec engine - are there any pictures available? It'd be nice to be able to see the difference between mine and that one. There was another thread a while back where someone was talking about seeing a 348 with a larger intake plenum, but they didn't know what they were looking at. I guess this solves the mystery. Some pictures would be very helpful.

    Thanks.
