The clutch change project is progressing well. I'm now ready to clean up the dual mass flywheel and put in fresh Kluber grease. Can someone give me a tip on how to split the flywheel halves?

    Thanks,
    James

Once you have the bolts out it's careful prying. there is a large o-ring all the way around so you want to be careful. if you do damage it it's easy to make a new one.

take it slow and if it don't go...back off and try again...didn't take too much force on mine.

thanks for the pics keep em coming. when you're ready to put it back together there are a few tips.

Still stuck? If yes you can't get a purchase on the groove to pry cover off. So use the 2 hex bolt plugs. remove and thread in a longer bolt. GENTLYscrew down and this forces the spider thingy into the cover. Once you see the cover move get a thin blade under it. Stop using the bolts and work your way around the cover to remove.

FBB: That's actually how I got it apart, except I didn't stop and pry...just kept going with the bolts until the O Ring was clear. Hopefully the bolts didn't damage anything.

It looks as though it was unnecessary to split the flywheel. The grease looks fine. However now that it's open I'm going to clean it up and put in new grease anyway.

From the records it appears this flywheel was new in '99, and curiously it has 250gm written on it, instead of the 280gm the TSB specified. I'm going to put 250gm back in...just because it's half a can.
