This might be a stupid question but I am wondering if there is a way to install something on the 348 to raise the car a little so the front spoiler isn't getting damaged all the time. Something that you can use only when you need it to get an inch or so of lift and doesn't effect the car when it's not switched on. I am careful and know how NOT to rub getting out of my drive way but I stopped to get gas one time and their exit about ripped my front end off. The car had a repaired spoiler when I got it and was cracked again in 2 spots since the PO fixed it. I have not driven the car much and have repaired the spoiler twice already myself and will have to fix it again now...

I can't be any more careful than I am and know how to take inclines at an angle but I see this front end getting caught one real good time and being ripped off the car eventually. If nobody has made something yet...I may have to see what I can make. As long as I can do it in a way that the car is not impacted in a bad way...it sure would save the front spoiler in many cases just having an inch or so of lift when you need it.

Any ideas so I don't have to reinvent the wheel?

Lamborghini has used a "lift system" on their cars since the 90's that pressurizes specially made Koni shocks from the power steering to raise the front when needed.

It's a "mickey mouse" system prone to leaks and failure. I wouldn't wish the expensive problems on anyone but when it works it's great.

    I'm thinking maybe I could:
    1) use some kind of hydraulic cylinders that are electronically controlled
    2) use some kind of electronic solinoids that fire a piston that I could butt up to brackets on the frame
    3) use mini electronic screw jacks
    4) Use 2 1000lb mag locks

I have not delved into this beyond the idea stage so all these thoughts might be stupid but I'm brain storming and will go with what sounds the best when I've thought about how it "could" be done. I know I am not only person with this problem so there has to be something already. As you mentioned the lambos had something like what I want to do. I know some buses raise and lower during boarding using air bags (I think) I know there has to be something already made to do this or at least parts available to make something. I'm not as mechanically smart as some the people on here which is why I threw out the idea...hoping to get some good ideas before I just start from scratch and see what works. This problem bugs me and I know if I don't think of something I'll be an expert at fiberglass repair soon LOL. I'm as good at it as I care to be already.

Just master the 'slow, angled approach' and you and the spoiler will live.

I agree and I do take it slow and go at any grade from an angle BUT if you encounter a steep exit like I did out of a gas station the time I mentioned, no matter how slow or the angle of approach...there's no way to avoid rubbing and possible breakage. It doesn't take much to crack and break the spoiler especially one like mine thats already been broken and repaired a few times.

I did consider trying the skid plates but that will decrease the clearance even more won't it...? Granted the skid plates will be rubbing but is it a band-aid for the problem and the same issue will exist...the car sits too low in the front for some grades and can easily rub. I've not used the skid plates so I don't know how well they work. Maybe that's all I need to do and just try not to scrape by looking at the grades of gas station exits ect BEFORE I pull in.

It would be much easier to do skids plates than to engineer a way to lift the car when you need an inch or 2 more clearance....if they will strengthen the spoiler area and take the brunt of a rub without breaking the spoiler...it may be the fix. I don't care what the solution is...I just don't want to be always have to be fixing the spoiler ;-)

Or you could simply install these:

I believe a company called Roberuto supply just the parts to be added to your original coil overs also, very well engineered but the price reflects this.

Thanks...thats what I'm looking for. I knew it had to already be out there. Now I just need to see how it fits the 348 coil overs...if it doesn't effect the car when I'm not using it that's what I'm wanting. I appreciate your response...again, thanks.

These units are now fitted to the Gumpert Apollo and when returned to their default setting cause no additional movement in the suspension geometry.

Ive seen quite a few kits being used, would love them for my 355 but the price is a little too much at the moment.

Good luck keeping your nose up :)

I've mentioned this before. The previous owner of my 348 had the front spoiler modified by a company in California, who sectioned about 3/4" out of the lower edge of the spoiler, to give it some extra clearance. You can't really notice it unless you're looking for it, and it was very professionally done. It's still possible to crunch it, but I haven't hit it hard enough to damage it in the 10 years I've owned the car. I'll post a picture if you'd like to see how it looks.

I thought about that too but not real thrilled about making changes to the stock parts... but yes I'd like to see pics of what was "trimmed".

Oops - batteries in my camera are dead, I'll try to get the pix later today.

By the way, when I posted about this years ago, someone tried to tell me that I was compromising the aerodynamics of my car. Happy to report that the car and I have survived just fine with 3/4" taken off the spoiler.
