Ok...I changed my stock pads to Porterfield pads. I covered the back of the pads with that red no squeak gizz. I followed the break-in procedure to the letter. There was no squeek for about 100 miles and now it is back.
Just before I come to a complete stop there is a nice-long squeeeeeeeekk.

Is there something I am missing here? Is it possible that I need a second break-in?

Oddly enough, the pads may be directional. The anti-squeal plate on the back of the place is offset so that when placed in correctly they don't squeal-when the wrong way, they are downright embarrassing. (The voice of experience-took me about a week to figure out-then I found the arrow)

I had the squeak when I used the stock OEM pads. Got rid of the squeak by turning down the rotors and switching to the super-cheap Axxis Metal-Master brake pads...which stop faster and put off less brake dust than what I had before.

    Go figure...

ok.. Not sure if the Porterfields are directional or not but I am going to remove the wheels tomorrow and have a look at them. If nothing else, I may recoat the backs with an extra amount of the red no-squeek stuff and see what happens. As always, thanks for the replys!

I pulled the pads out again this morning and re-coated them with the red no-squeak gel. Took it for a test drive and they are still squeaking. Stopped at Autozone and threw myself on the floor crying. The guy at the desk said to try this stuff that you spray directly on the rotors. Going back in...

Just a thought but did you bed them correctly? Most squeeks that I have see come from not bedding the pads correctly to the rotor.

Beyond that a lot of times its just pad compounds that make the thing noisy. I have squeeks with everything but the Hawk Performance Ceramics, but personally I dont mind because it has never been that bad. Race pads are a different story.

Pulled the wheels back off, cleaned the rotors and coated them with "no-squeak" spray. Everything seems fine except that my car doesn't stop anymore. At least the squeak is gone.

Funny (I hope!). I haven't had any luck with the no-squeak spray. Changing pad brands and turning down the rotors ($20) has worked for me, though.

I may have to change brands if the squeak comes back. What brand did you switch to?

Did you bed them in according to the Zeckhausen instructions?

Yes I follwed the "bed-in" procedure exactly. The only thing is, I know that it says I may need to do an extra bit if I have certain pads. Did the pads I get from you need that extra bed-in?

No, that should have been sufficient.

Once that stuff you sprayed onto the rotors is gone, and you're confident that you can stop the car, I'd get it to about 70 mph on a nice wide open stretch of road and then damn-near stand on the brakes as hard as possible, without engaging ABS. Then, at about 5 mph, release the pressure and do the whole thing again. Do it about 4 times until the burning smell is pretty rank.

Then, drive around without using them much and allow to cool. When you park, do not set the e-brake. See if that makes any difference.

BUT, do NOT, do NOT, do NOT do this unless you are certain the pads are generating friction and you have enough road to do it safely. Surrounding drivers and/or police will think you're drunk -- so use extreme caution.

^^ I use the Axxis Deluxe Plus in my BMW. Great pads! No dust, no squeal. However, I'm not sure they're stout enough for the 348. ND's Metal Masters might be more appropriate than the Deluxe Plus'

If you order the Axxis pads, the Deluxe plus is the lowest dust option, then metal master. The metal master pads have better grip (slightly) than the deluxe plus. Unless you are driving hard alot, I would go with the deluxe plus to have less dust.
