Well, I am enjoying my 348 a lot but without power steering my arms are getting tired! I reckon I have three choices:

    (1) Retro-fit power steering pump. Can this be done?
    (2) Get new steering wheel with those ear thingy's to make it easier to turn.
    (3) Go to gym and start exercising those pecs!

Given I can't be a**ed to do item 3, can you give any tips on items 1 and 2? What types of steering wheel are on your cars?

    TIA

Why not just take the entire wheel off and replace it with motor cycle handles? LOL.

I suppose if you had a wrecked Mondial T you could transfer over the entire Power Steering system (pump, brackets, hoses, tank, rack, etc) but it would be an enormous job. In order to get extra mechanical leverage, you would have to install a larger steering wheel, and the difference would probably be minimal.

You could pump the front tires up to about 100 psi....

What would you do about using a belt though?

I'm not sure I understand your question about the belt. The Mondial T doesn't use an additional belt to drive the steering pump, just a longer belt that still drives the alternator. If you had a wrecked Mondial T with usable power steering, it should be possible to transfer the system into a 348, for about a gazillion dollars.

This picture shows a Mondial T engine (out) with the power steering pump and hoses.

that answered it! I thought they might have used a seperate belt. A gazillion dollars sounds about right! Has anyone heard of someone doing this mod. I like not having power steering....I faced the same dilemma but I chose option 3.

Thanks guys. As I don't have a wrecked Mondial T engine and a 'gazillion' dollars I'll go for option 2.

New momo wheel ordered. I'll post a pic when I get it fitted.

    Why?

What's the difference between the Driver and the standard wheel?
