    Hi Everyone,

I am experiencing the following problem:

My '93 348 has an INTERMITTANT stutter at roughly 4000rpm. This stutter only occurs when the car has been "pushed" (eg. after / during a track day, or in excess of 150mph), If the car is not pushed, the problem will not occur.

Symptoms: The car accelerates fine up to roughly 3800 to 4000rpm, it will then start to stutter. Sometimes, if the stutter is only light, I can accelerate through it and the problem usually goes away. Other times, when the stutter is move severe, I am unable to climb above 4000rpm.

This problem was most noticable at the FOC Oulton Park track day earlier this summer. Halfway through the afternoon session, the car stated to stutter @ 4000rpm and I could do nothing about it. That was the end of my track day and I had to drive almost to Stoke before I was able to get past 4000rpm. As soon as I passed this 4000rpm barrier, the stutter disappeared, until several weeks later when I pushed the car hard again.

Has anyone had this problem?? Does anyone know the cause?? What should I do??

Your advice is very welcome !

I had this problem before. I took it to my mechanic for the annual fluid flush and he replaced the spark plugs & greased the wires with die electric grease. The stuttering went away.

It maybe your plugs. Corroded perhaps.

    Good luck

I had this problem and it bugged me for months, before I found out what was causing it. There are several things that could be causing your problem, but I would start by checking the crank positioning sensors. Make sure that the connections are clean and hooked up properly. Also when you are looking at that, you will want to make sure that you don't have any busted wires under the rubber boot, that covers the female connector, coming off of the wiring loom. That is what turned out to be my problem. There are three wires that go into the back of the female clip. The #1 wire was the one that was broken on mine. It was just making enough contact to run fine at the lower rpm's, but would misfire at the high rpm's. So peal back the boots on each of those and make sure everything is ok. If they are dirty get some electrical contact cleaner, to clean things up. Now if those check out okay then it could be that one, or several, of your spark plug wires are shot. That will also make the car misfire. So check those too. Also you will want to pull the codes from the Motronic ECU's, behind the seats. Start there and then lets us know what you find.
