Not a great story this, but hoping to gain some advice and moral support always welcome!! There is a little rust on the rear sub frame!! The attached photo is the worst one, but all 6 are affected to one degree or another. (Appears that Ferrari didn't anticipate damp/water getting in there, so didn't put mouse holes in to allow the water to drain out, or if they did they soon get clogged with road dirt!)) Having a search on the internet this doesn't seem unusual, with some very nice repairs being carried out as part of larger restoration. Question to everybody...has anybody repaired this area with the subframe in situ? All the work that I have seen as been done with the subframe out of the car and completely stripped down. I don't really want to go to this length and looking at the metal that needs to be replaced, it looks to me as if it could be repaired in situ. I'd take the suspension apart to gain proper access, but I was planning/budgeting to overhaul this anyway so could do it at the same time. Thoughts appreciated, and if anybody knows a good mobile welder fabricator in the south west of the UK, I'd appreciate details. Cheers Image Unavailable, Please Login
Check out Jeffs thread here in the UK. Scroll down to find pics. I think you will find the answer. 348 DIY "Restoration" - Page 202
Yes insitu but the reason for taking the subframe out and off the motor is so that you can completely inspect the frame. What makes you think this is your only issue? I good inspection is visual. A better one is to clean off all the paint and look again. These frames are very poorly made.
Thanks for that. I hadnt seen that bit of his thread. As you say answered the question, I just need to ensure that is the only corrosion that needs dealing with. Seems simple enough and I will just add it to the list when I rebuild the rear suspension! Cheers
