I noticed that my 348 had some high performnce chips installed in it. I know this because I have the originals in a plastic case.

What's the point? What do they do?

If they do what they are supposed to, they will give your particular car a better air to fuel "map".

Ideally, you want your air to fuel ratio to start somewhere around 13.1 to 1 (for better rpm responsiveness) and gradually decline to somewhere around 12.7 to 1 (some racers go to 11.5 to 1) to give you the most power.

Some 348's do this with stock chips. Others, especially cars with modifications (e.g. hyper-flow cats), need non-stock air to fuel maps.

So some chips work; others don't work as well (stock or aftermarket), and it varies car by car.

Yup, the only way to know for sure is to run back to back dyno runs with an air/fuel ratio sniffer stuck in the exhaust flow (pre-cat). Try one with the stock chips, one with the super duper chips....

    Matt,
sounds like you've got her up and running.
The chips were installed by the previous owner to compliment the TUBI exhaust system.
