Had both tail-light assemblies out this weekend...... what a mess. Some idiot had tighened the cover retainer bolts down so much that the studs pulled free from the tail light pod. Let me tell you it was not easy to get them out. A little JB weld fixed that problem.
What I did notice is that both of the assemblies are warped behind the reverse light...apparently from the heat passing through the center "grill". Passenger side was good enough but the drivers side looked pretty bad from the bottom and side.

Anyone have an extra after doing a Lemans Grill conversion? Have any fellow F-chat members observed the same problem? One year ago, I took the 2-can muffler off and installed a Stebro....heat shields are in place.... hopefully this was an existing condition generated by the original mufflers.
    Thanks

Mike, you have 355 tail lights retrofitted to your car? If so, the reverse lights always melt the tail lights...all Ferraris that use this tail light suffer the problem: 355,360, 550, 575, 512TR, 575 super america, Challenge Stradale, etc. The only solution is to replace the reverse bulb with a lower wattage, low heat LED.

I've definitely suffered from the same thing. Warping in the exact same locations. I still have the factory original two can muffler, and believe this to be significant factor. Once I get my car back together, updated exhaust and wheels are the next two projects, but I need a wee bit of a break after reassembly.

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to get by the shop in the past day or two (holiday weekend craziness), but will post pics as soon as I do. I bet ours looking suspiciously similar.

For the record, it doesn't really show at all unless the lights are completely removed, as it is only on the bottom of the assemblies that are all buggered. If you know exactly where to look, you can see it from the engine bay, but you have to be looking. Of course, for me, once I was aware of it, it drove me nuts. Pics incoming soon....

    Stock 348 tail-light assemblies.
Yes you cannot really see the damage once the the assembly is in place, unless you are looking for it. There was some separation between the reverse light lense and the black plastic pod, which was treated to JB weld for a little strength and improved seal from the elements.
I'd still like to replace the driver's side unit, if someone has one in excellent shape.
Stooges - you guys have any observations?
    Thanks
    Mike
