    I have noticed two male extentions on the wall behind the seats where the top rests.It would seem that these were put there to receive a strap that would hold the top in place. If I'm right...does anyone know where I might be able to find one?

    Hi, John;

    I assume what you are talking about is the snap connectors for the targa top stowage boot. My 348ts was missing the boot when I got the car (grrrrrrr). I was going to have one made, but I didn't have one to use as a pattern, so I ended up buying one from the dealer. I think it was somewhere around $350. It comes with a bag to store the boot in when the top is in place on the car. You could probably make a strap out of some elastic material, or have a boot made if you didn't care about getting the original part.

    OOOOO MILTONIAN, DAYYYUMM THAT'S NICE! I wish I had that nice leather boot and retention strap. I usually leave my roof in the garage, and just pray for sunny skies.

    When I do store it, the seatback screws rub against the roof and scratch it all to hell.

    Daniel;

    Exact-a-mento!! What a stupid design! My top had scratches on it from the seatback screws. And one day I took the top and put it into MY office, next to MY desk, and when I went to put it back on, someone had dragged something across it and scratched it again! That's when I decided to buy the boot. I suppose they are way more than $350 now.

    I think there is also a different design on the panels behind the seats on later cars, so my picture may not necessarily show the exact same set-up as John would have on his car.

    Edit: I just looked up my old receipt for the targa top boot. In my case, it was Ferrari part #63348200, and I paid $240 plus tax for it on 2/21/01.

    THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO SEE! Thank you!
    I had no idea what the retaining nipples were actually for. I thought I might just try and get a bungy cord and eyelet screws and see what happens. But that cover looks like a better answer!

    Thanks again for posting a picture. live and learn.

    John -

    You just gave me a great idea. A bugee cord would actually be thick enough to keep the seatback from rubbing on the top. Maybe for me, that'll kill two birds with one stone.

    Glad to know we all suffer the same problem.

    I just bought 2 off large thick bath towels and slide them between the rear of the seat and the targa top. It works for me and helps mop up leaks when it rains :)

    I have another idea. what about going to a leather supply store. I know they have snap hardware and you can fashion a leather belt together with the snap receivers and your there!

    * Hey Daniel...we could sell these unique items through "Ricambi".

    Forgive me father, for I have sinned. On the occasions when I do take the top with me, I have done the EXACT same thing !

    Gotta love it, a $100K car that you need to carry a towel to swab up the leaks when it rains. Only Ferrari!

    You could add 5K onto the value of your car by having the only 348TS or GTS that doesnt leak. Does anyone have a 348TS that doesnt leak?

    My 1992 348ts has never leaked. I have kept the rubber seals conditioned with a BMW product called, "Gummi Fledge." The seals are in brand new condition on a car that is stored outside during the summer months, rain or shine.

    Do you guys think with new seals that it would solve leak problems?

    Have you ever conditioned the seals with a rubber dressing like Gummi Fledge?

    It will soften the rubber and improve the sealing abillity.

    I've been told by a dealer that changing the seals on a 348ts costs about 7 hrs labor plus parts (don't remember cost of seals.)

    Preventive maintanance is much cheaper.
