From these pics can you tell if this particular car is a 348 tb or GTB? Plus, what's the difference from the exterior/interior details. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think she's a Tb. Because of the "pre-spider" front grille. And i'm not 100 % sure , but i think that GTB had different headrest than Tb...
That's what I thought but the rear track looks a bit wide for the tb....IMO, and there's a brake light on the rear lid.
I would say its a GTB, for the following reasons: 1. The chrome 'prancing horse' between the rear light clusters, it was matt black on the earlier cars (tb and ts). 2. Body-colour coded side sills - although many earlier cars have had this done. Hope that helps.
That sounds on the button - chrome horse and colour coded sills, and, I don't know about "pre" Spider grill, but it looks identical to my Spider.
Not so easy to tell - they all (tb/ts) got chrome horsies from 92' and many have had the black paint wet-sanded off. Not all GTB's had the wider track either - it seems to be market location dependant. Loads of earlier cars have aftermarket spacers fitted as well. If unmodded I'll guess at GTB. Never noticed the 3rd brake light on any before..maybe market dependant..middle east??
Car looks like a 89-92 tb with the chrome horse on the back grille and a smaller chrome horse added to the front grille. The lower skirts can be painted to match body color.I did the same thing with my 90 348ts and it looks alot better and updated.GTB/GTS only came out in93-94.the front grille looksalitte different also.
Nope. The best way to tell is by looking in the engine bay. The GTB's have the tall intake plenums. The other thing you will be looking for is the code on the block. If the engine code is H then it is a GTB.
I'm sure it is the best way - if you are looking under the lid. The guy asked 'from these photos' so I suppose we are all just guessing..
Which is why I answered Unless it had the 348gtb badge on the engine cover, which it doesn't, you can only guess.
I would guess GTB because of the painted lower panels, wider rear track etc... Also, I have an 89 348ts with the same third rear tail light. The tb did not have a full painted engine cover also. Of course these changes could have been done aftermarket, so tough to say without more photos. BT
Thanks, but I've seen many tb/ts examples with chrome horses and most have had their side sills painted the same colour as the rest of the car.
To be honest, I've always understood that the difference between tb/ts and GTB/GTS was the wider track at the rear only, never before have I tried focusing my attention to the front grill or anything else. It surprises me for you to comment that NOT ALL GTB/GTS have wider track.
Thanks for your comment. That's a point, perhaps with a picture of the engine bay, attached herewith, you would be able to help. Image Unavailable, Please Login
From a close look of the car there was evidence that there was a GTB badge on the engine lid before but now its been removed. To me, badges are easy to acquire, so it's a point that I don't really think proves that this car an earlier or later model. Some have told me that GTB/GTS models have a lip around the front grill, can any of you confirm this detail?. From the Pic you are able to see that this car has no lip. Another point that I've tried to figure out was to do with the issue that some have a single duct, others having two ducts, positioned at the bottom of the spoiler?.
Well from the looks of the plenum I say it is not a gtb, and just a regular old tb. As I said the gtb/gts cars have the taller intake plenums, and this one does not.
I'm with Ernie..Definitely a TB with the mods... I have a 91' 348 TS.... My lower body is color coded with the car I have a 4" rear chrome horse (I replaced the black one) I have a 3" front chrome horse (which I rigged on there) I also have a wider track (but thats because of the 360 wheels) The intake plenum is the giveaway....No way someone would put the smaller one on and take off the larger one so that they could decrease their power by 20hp.
Ohhhhh!!!!, now it's really clear what model it is. Thanks very much for your post. To be honest I never knew that one had to have a close look at the height of the plenum, like I said before I was only focusing in the past on the width of the rear track. The place selling the car in the picture is trying to stick to their story that it's a genuine GTB. So, I will immediately tell my friend of all the findings on this thread so that he could make his judgement if to buy or not. I've had some F-cars but never owned a 348 so no idea about the different details.
Ernie, Sorry but could you also show me a picture of the front spoiler of the GTB so that I could compare the two. Thanks
Sorry, what difference do you think there is on the front grills apart from the chrome horse ? I think all grills are the same, from the first model to the very last spider. Correct me please.
