Could someone help me with this problem. I am trying to keep my -91 TB as original as possible. Now my car is having a new painting allover. My car is red with matt black lower parts. As i watch photos of other similar TB:s, 2/3 are all red with out black lows. Has it been option to have fully red, or has many owners painted their car to make it more modern look? It certainly looks more fresh to have it fully red, but after 6 years
i will have the car museum registered, and it must have the original look. Thanks, Markku

    Yours should be red/black.

The early cars all had the black lower. Being a 91 the factory correct look would be to have black ground fx. They did not offer colored until the later cars 93,94,95 I believe. Front part of the engine cover should be black too.

Bit of an oxymoron to state you want to keep the car as original as possible, yet it will have a complete paint job

There comes a point that if a car is actually driven and used that the paint has to be looked at as a wear item and needs to be refreshed. There's no reason a good paint job in the original paint code isn't in every way better then the factory job.

It's like saying you've never changed your oil because you want it just the way it came from the factory.

As my car is origin from Italy, it has several dents all over the car. Two company has been trying to fix those dents with out luck. It also has several, not so well done small paint spots done by Italians. Someone has also been polishing it too many times, varnish is gone....My car will have a new life with a very talent painter. It has only 82tkm., so technically it is perfect.

Keep the black lowers. That's the original aesthetic for the 1989-1992 tb and ts, and it looks great! :)

The body color lowers are for the Spider, GTB, GTS, SS, etc. Hope that helps.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Paint it how you want it painted. If you want the whole car one color, go for it. The whole car would be painted one color to start and then the black in painted over it anyway.

Therefore, the lower portion can be painted black and any point in time.

It's you car, do what you want.

While I understand your point, I disagree with this analogy.

The condition of the paint in no way has any bearing on the engine; however, oil does.

A better comparison would have been "i am not going to re-upholster my worn leather because I want to keep it original"

Sure I was just going to the extreme.

If a car is actually used the whole thing is a wear item.

I personally believe if you are repaintng the car in the factory color code then that is keeping it original. If I changed from yellow to red that is not keeping it factory original.

I also agree with vjlax18 it's your car do what you like.

Well it sure looks better without black. As the minimum age to get car in museum register in Finland is 30 yrs., I could paint the bottom again black after 6 yrs. to get original look:))) The job is done after 3-4 weeks, I will post some photos of it....

As has already been posted, if you want the car to be as it left the factory then the lower panels should be painted in the body colour first and then painted black over the top.

What we think of as Ferrari giving the car an updated look could well have simply been Ferrari saving money by reducing the painting process by not having to do a second paint job for the black panels (the cost savings being in both materials and time).

    Hi Aittokoski,

My '91 TB was originally red but painted yellow by the PO. One day, I will have it resprayed back to red and your type of red is exactly what I want. What paint number did you use? Was it Glasurit?
