I have stumbled across two questions the other day about the different versions of 348's that have been produced over the years and in different countries.

First off, I saw that swiss 348tb's seem to have 286 HP while german ones have 300 HP. Does one of you know why this is the case and what "steels" the 14 HP compared to the german & international ones?

Secondly I read that there have been certain smaller or larger changes from year in the models like a different front spoiler, etc. I was unable to find an archive that lists the changes if you compare a 1989 version of a 348 to a 1994 version for example. Could you enlighten me?

Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!

I love those two posts, the running production changes data, but much of it is US-slanted information or doesn't include production date changes for some major items--like the relocation of the battery. It simply says 1992.......which seems to imply model year (again, a US-slanted concept)..... same goes for body colored skirts...simply says "1992".

On another thread I was curious if anyone knows the actual production date they switched to body colored skirts regardless of "model year". Did this change come in at the same time as the wide offset wheels and the battery relocation?

Even more confusing when you consider that model year doesn't mean the same time range in Europe as it does in the US. I doubt there is much info out there on exact assembly numbers when the change were made. Ferrari was pretty random back then and kept next to nothing for records. Most of what we know is just gathered from owner observations.

Yes, I saw this post but as bjwhite said it is pretty US-focussed.
Especially when it comes to the HP differences between swiss and other 348's it does not really help a lot.

Was it not the case that the Swiss market cars had to meet tighter emission Laws than anywhere else and so were more "strangled" than cars for other markets?

No. The sills were black on ts and tb from the Factory and then body-coloured on the GTB and GTS (and the US-only Serie Speciale).

    Apparently, strangled is correct.

Looking through the workshop and parts manual most everything is the same for the USA, CDN and CH cars (engine internals, exhaust, engine ECUs, engine intake manifolds, etc.), except the air filter box and its inlet hoses are different (i.e. Not per CH).

Appears to have restrictors as well (see item 21, in lieu of 4).

So, simply swap out the restrictive air intake system and reset the ECUs and you should be good to go.

Sounds like a cool test project.

    You're welcome Chris.

Anytime I can learn something new about the 348 is always a great day for me.
