I was told you can swap out the complete plastic 348 timing belt cover (6 pieces) for an aluminum one off of a 355. Is this true? If so, what installation problems were encountered? Thanks

    ANOTHER ONE!!

I would be very surprised if the timing belt cover from a 355 (which has two timing belts) would fit onto a 348 (which has one timing belt), but the aluminum cover from an early 348 will swap for the plastic cover on a late 348.

While we are on the topic, how does one go about getting metal ones to replace the plastic ones on a 348? and is it easy to check to see if you have plastic or metal? if so, pls advise

    thanks

Pop the engine bonnet. If you see shiny metallic aluminum covers toward the passenger cockpit, then you've got the good timing belt covers. If you see black, then you've got the el cheapo brittle plastic covers.

I picked up my metallic replacement/upgrades from a dismantler in the UK. Ricambi has some of them here, too.

Excellent, thanks! I will have a look tomorrow. If they are plastic, I will waste no time replacing with the metal.
