Hey brothers and sisters. Does any one have a source or solution for top rattle caused by loose or cracked rubber sleeves over top locating pegs. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure about what you're describing, but on my car the rattle was caused by the locating pins themselves being loose. They just screw into the fitting, so it's very easy to screw them down tight.
THanks for the reply. My car is a 1991. one of the pins has a partially cracked rubber sleeve that bushed the pin in the hole. The other pin does not have any of this rubber. Im guessing that to be the source of the rattle.
Just for giggles, you may want to measure the distance between the mounting pegs/holes, both fore and aft, and diagonally, to see if your top is "square". I seem to recall that my ts was within about 1/16", but someone else I corresponded with found his top something like 3/8" out of square. Might be able to find the story in the archives if I look back.
Or you could try injecting a little Shoe Goo. this is great stuff and drys harder than silicon calk. I'm thinking you apply this to the worn area to rebuild it.
I haven't tried this but a few of my Vette friends have had success with these type pins dipped in the liquid rubber stuff you use for tool handles. It is available from the big box stores like Home Depot.
