Anything special to note or technique to be aware of for removing the shock top nut? It looks like the shaft has a slot in it to hold it still while turning the nut.

It is under tremendous pressure from the spring. It MUST be in a spring compressor. I usually use an impact to break it loose. Make sure it is all clocked properly when you tighten it.

Right, the springs are off the shock. I imagine the shaft the nut is on will spin unless held, presumably with that slot in the shaft.

Correct. If the springs are off it is probably not much more than hand tight. Often the friction within the shaft to shock will be enough such that your impact gun can spin the nut off without having to "fix" the shaft. Be careful around springs. There is a lot of energy in there. If you are not familiar with this look, study, move slowly. "Measure twice cut once."

Actually replacing control arm bushings and powerboating the arms so I had to compress spring to get them out, I then removed removed the springs once off and bought new springs to put in. I'll replace those pillow blocks as well. Thanks!

Yep spun right off FBB, reinstalled with no springs to clock it and light hit with impact wrench. Easy peasy. Thanks !
