Hey guys...In a few weeks I'm going to be driving my 348 home from its 30K service - about a 360 mile trip from Dallas. Meanwhile, my grand niece Sharon Jean needs me to trailer a set of king size mattresses and a large barbeque grill behind my car. That's where the problem comes up. I called U-Haul, and they don't have a hitch that bolts right on a Ferrari. So I went to Midas to see what they could do, and they can weld on a device to my Ferrari that will allow the U-Haul hitch to go on. So the U-Haul hitch and trailer is going to run around 100 bucks, but the work by Midas is going to be over $200. Anyone have any recommendations besides Midas to do this work? Should I just try to sweet-talk my mechanic into throwing in fitting the U-Haul hitch as part of my 30K service?
Obviously, you've already been drinking on this Memorial Day. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. One more time, let's have the whole chorus chime in.... Don't do it.
Husker, you should be ashamed you yourself even considering such a thing!!! The 348 was designed and created to be a drivers car, not to be used to haul a trailer. We should serious consider kicking you out of the brotherhood for even contemplating it!!!! Get a 360 if you want to haul a trailer. PS. If you do end up doing it, please for God's sake..... DON'T TAKE A PIC!!!!! The 355 owners will never let us live it down. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah well, you guys don't know my grand niece very well. When she says jump, you say "how high" or you'll regret it. The Midas guy said it wouldn't be a big deal - a couple of welds underneath the rear bumper and that should do it. The only question is how big a trailer do I need for a box springs and mattress. I think with someone's help I can get the one mattress folded over. The barbeque grill will be no problem - it has wheels on the front and should roll right on with some help.
Okay I'm with Dan on this one. It seems you have been hitting the sauce for a while now. First he "didn't" know what a Tubi was, and now he wants to hook up a trailer to the back of a 348?! Husk put the bottle down and step away. Or maybe you need to crawl away, we don't want you falling. This is not good for the image of the Brotherhood.
OK you fellas lost me. First, thanks for educating me on the tubi. I'll keep it. But how about some help on getting me a hitch hooked on. I mean it's a car isn't it?
EXACTLY! It's a SPORTS car, not a truck. The frame is not designed to handled the load of haulling a trailer. The numb nuts a U-Haul, obviously have never seen behind the bumper of a 348, or any Ferrari for that matter. The only thing to weld to up under the bumper is the small tube that the heat shield is bolted too. Trust me if you try to pull a trailer welded to that bar, it WILL break. If your thinking about trying welding it to the subframe for the engine, forget it. The body frames on a truck are square tubing, which is why they can handle the load. The subframe for the engine is not made from square tubing, it only has three sides. Sorry but this time you're just gonna have to tell your niece NO! If she has a fit, then let her flop around on the grond like a fish, she'll get over it. And for crying out loud, put the bottle down.
Hmmmm. A little intervention is in order. Dude! Do you not own another vehicle (I know you do)! Use that, don't butcher and hurt your Ferrari! You are hereby forbidden to drive it, until you have read every thread on this board. Hand over the keys!

i think you might have the same problem as this guy did if you try and tow something with your 348: http://www.shivamparikh.com/audiworld/SnowCar.wmv
OK, I talked to U-Haul about this about 15 minutes ago, and the lady said it could be welded right on the engine sub-frame - so all is Okey-doke on that front. I just can't get over Midas wanting 200 bucks to do the weld. Anyone have any other suggestions besides Midas?
You're working your same joke too hard. First was the $277 Ferrari windshield joke, then the 12 years between 348 timing belt change joke, then the "cover your Check Engine Light with duct tape" joke, and now the "weld a trailer hitch and tow mattresses behind a 348" joke. It's getting old. It's never been funny.
OK guys...No Doubt called me on it. This whole thread was a joke. I thought you all might like some Memorial Day humor. Actually, No Doubt, the "electrical tape over the check engine lights" was no joke. I won't be trailoring anything behind my 348. Heck I might not even be driving it. If Jonathan Peck can't do me right, it might even be in the back of a .... U-Haul!
If you add a snowplow bracket up front that helps with the balance. Problem is seeing over the plow, but if you put a phone book on the seat and keep the plow lowered it works. Also helps with the stone chip issue.
