    I was driving the 348 today and started to have shifting problems. 2nd and 3rd gear does not work anymore. I can start in 1st, then when I shift to 2nd, there is nothing there. Same with 3rd. 4th and 5th works though. The dash has the light "PARK" on now while in any gear. What happened? Anyone know?

    I'm in Minnesota. Should I bring it to the nearby transmission shop or should I go to the Ferrari shop? The ferrari shop is about 45 mins away from me.

    I would certainly take it to someone who knows at least something about Ferraris, but if by "Ferrari shop" you mean dealer maintenance department, I'd do some research first (to be fair, there are SOME reasonable dealers out there). Do you have a good independent shop nearby? Maybe post in your geo specific forum and see if there are any suggestions.

    At any rate, good luck! Let us know what happens.

    Is the light you talking off look like an exclamation symbol in a circle? It sounds like your low level brake fluid light - 348s share the clutch and brake fluid resevoir - try topping up youur fluid and see if light goes out/shifting improves (you may need to re-bleed clutch though before shifting problem is fixed).

    As a further confirmation check the "pumpkin" housing behind back bumper and see if there is signs of a fluid leak

    Agree with above... bleed the clutch hydraulic line and cross your fingers. I'm presuming no one has been recently messing about with gear lever, shift gate, or the box in the back where the shift cables run into. If all of that is normal, as a last ditch effort, open up that rubber box by the oil pan where the cables go, and make sure the grease in there hasn't become old and gunky or contaminted.

    I don't know how familiar you are with the car so apologies if you know already but to top up the clutch/brake fluid resevoir you access it under one of those carpeted panels in frunk.

    Your supposed to be able to check the level with it all in place....mmmm...maybe I'm stupid but I removed the cap and alo prised out the little filter to make sure. Obviously it goe without saying to protect surrounding areas from brake fluid and dont drop anything down into resevoir!!

    I brought it in the shop and the tech said that the connection on the transmission side broke. He mention something about the fork and that it needed replacing. He said the transmission needs to be pulled out to fix the linkage and etc. He quoted over $6500 and that he would rebuild the whole transmission while the transmission is out. Does this sound right?

    A picture of the breakage would confirm. $6500 is a lot, considering you can find a complete tranny in the $3000 range.

    It does not sound right. The transmission on a 348 is pretty easy to get to. The "broken fork" can be replaced without having to pull the transmission and do a full rebuild. I would suggest a second opinion.
