A quote taken from Forza magazines buying guide (june 2001). "....the 348 is weak mechanically, and not that well built. if the tranny goes bad - which happens with regularity - it is a $15,000 problem." Who's had a gearbox break or go bad? Another myth to be dis-prooved? Mines got 32,000 miles on it and feels good.
~38000miles (62000kms) on mine with no issues other than the usual grumpy 2nd when cold. Switching to Redline75/90NS this time.
Mine has done 48kmiles, no probs. Just usual bit stiff 2nd when cold but I'm not trying fast shifts before gearbox oil (Redline NS) is fully warm, after that it's shifts like dream.
Feel sorry for Ernie I have not heard of the gear boxes going on 348s. What happens to them? This should be an interesting read. I wonder how many are in work shops right now No doubt we will find out
Good man! That Red Line tranny fluid works wonders. As for the poll, the 348 tranny had a bearing update circa 1991. So some early 348 trannies did or will eventually fail if they fail to get the bearing updated in time. http://webpages.charter.net/aircover/348/1994Ferrari348Spider.html#TSB There was also an assembly problem on some units when a shortcut was used at the factory. JJstecher and ernie seem to have run into these issues. Anyone else??
