While walking in San Mateo California today, i saw a 348 and peered in the window. On the dash was badging that said TS SPECIALE. I then looked at the plates and saw "1 of 15" WHat all do you know bout the car? I had never heard of it before today. Is it a legitimately different car or just false plates on a normal ts?

I recently read here that although the production was to be 100 cars, only 80 were actually produced. Very rare and a good car to keep for the long term IMHO.

    114 ferrari 348 serie speciale's built from 1992-1994

    12 1992
    88 1993
    14 1994

the fourteen 94's varied slightly from the first 100 SS as they didn't have the carbon fibre racing seats or the lowered front spoiler lip. plus the interior color was black on all fourteen 1994's

I was under the impression that there were 15 TS's, all of the other SS variants being TB's.

This cracks me up! You were looking at my car! I just bought it two weeks ago from Stanford European in Palo Alto. Actually they made 15 of these cars in '94. The plate on the inside door panel of my car says #5 of 15. The license says 1 of 15. It's a lot of fun to drive. What a small world......

They actually made 15 SS's in 1994. I have #9. Blue exterior/Black interior.. I wish that I had the carbon fiber seats (even though there horribly uncomfortable but look fantastic)

You know, I don't find them to be all that uncomfortable. A little lacking in lumbar support, for sure, but otherwise ok. Of course, I enjoy feeling "plugged in" :)

It all depends on the size of the individual. I am 6' 220lbs, not overly huge but larger than normal, and I found them to be comfortable at first but then they start to become uncomfortable the longer I sit in them. They are also very difficult to get out of (again, depending on your size).

Obviously a slimmer (than me) fellow may find them perfect.

ferrari348register.com lists 45 SS (i.e almost 40% of the total production).
The breakdown on these cars is 21 TB and 24 TS.
    For what it is worth...

Just drove 750 miles last weekend during a FCA meet and found the seats to be reasonably comfortable. Some lack of lumber support as noted somewhere in this thread but not too bad.
However, they are definitely hard to get out but...they look great!

I have owned #81/100 for about 6 months now (see pic below).
There is a lot of conflicting info about this car out there.
Here are the results of my research:
    - it is now pretty much established that a total of 115 cars were made (12 1992, 88 1993 and 15 1994).
    - Mods from regular car:
Free flow exhaust adding 12 bhp
    Rear track wider by 25mm
Front lip spoiler (at least on 92 and 93 models. I did not know that the 94s did not have it).
    Color matching skirts.
No "black grille" covering the rear lights.
Kevlar sport seats available as an option.

Value wise, would it be safe to say that a SS model would fetch a premium over a standard car given both are evenly matched in condition and service history? I was thinking 5K over a regular 348. What do you guys think.

Absolutely, there would be premium if the cars were matched in condition, etc..
    At least 5k
