I hear all these stories about the 355 problems, like headers, cats etc. Does the 348 have the same thing or an entirely different set of problems. I've looked at a few 355's and so far most have looked like they have been ridden hard and put away wet a few too many times.

348's have problems that will piss you off and drive you crazy like, bad clutch shaft seals that wet your flywheel grease pak, bad electricals that will strand you at any time, leaking tops. 355's will put you in the poorhouse with bad exhaust headers that have never been fixed forcing owners to either buy aftermarket (Ferrari blasphomy ) or buy Ferrari headers to the tune of $2k each each car should have the upgraded new steel valve guides for a $10K topend rebuild. Worse yet there is no engine number that specifies when the change to steel on the valve guides was done at the factory. In fact there are rumored to be 97 355's with old guides yet 96's that have the steel in there. Typical Ferrari they use what they got. I would not be suprised knowing Ferari if some cares have a mix of both guides! Without teardown there is no way to prove stated retrofits were ever done and there is no factory documentation as to which are in which car since there was nver a log by VIN. A leakdown test tells you only about today and not about tomorrow. Some old 355's like 95's are going fine on the old guides. However, most of these cars are very low mileage garagequeens too.

If you buy a piece of sh*t, it will always be a piece of sh*t. Every car has it's little quirks, just how big the "quirks" are depends on the car. There are good cars out there, mine has 16k (1995 355spider) and is great because its driven(not abused). Avoid any cars w/ issues even if its $5-10k less because it will cost you $20k+ to fix...TRUST ME
