ok, stop for one moment... when you bring up the TR, you are talking about entirely different Fcar in terms of feel. Around town, it's not as nimble as the other two, visibility is poor with the roof sails blocking your view in a lane change and it's a brute, so you may want to ponder on that. On the highway, the car is wonderful. Ultimately, its up to you, but I say always go for Ferrari 12 power!

I went through the same decision a year ago. the 355 is far superior in everyrespect to the 348 and is a much more modern car than the TR. The TR may be a 12, but the 355 will smoke it...

There is one simple way to figure it out: use science! Simply take 2 Snickers candy bars and discretely lable one TR and the other 355. Place each on the floor and see which one your kids pick up first. ;)

Shouldn't this thread be 355 vs TR?

My decision was easy: I wanted a convertible. I don't plan to race at the track and I live in California...gotta have a topless exotic hottie...and a convertible Ferrari too ;) ;) ;)

If it came down to a coupe, I'd likely sway towards the TR. It's classic, far more likely to become more of a collectors thing and (for me) it put Ferrari on the exotic map. The cheese-graters and 12-cylinder roar is just too much to pass-up on. It'll cost you more to maintain and it won't keep-up with a 355...but who cares.

In the end, you'll just have to drive them both...and you know this.:)

Better power to weight ratio + better suspension + better technology= faster car.

Get a F-40 if you want performance. If you want something thats a good daily driver with reasonable performance then why not a 360 challenge?

Biggest difference between a 348 and a 355? About $30,000. Worth it? Not to me.

If you are considering a Testarossa vs a 355, get the 355. The early Testarossa's (TR) had 380 hp, the same as the '95 355's. Later 355's had 375 hp, due to only having one air inlet, instead of two like the 95's. The 355 is more nimble than a Testarossa, and having the same power output, the 355 will out perform the Testarossa. Now if it is between the 512TR, or the 355, get the 512TR. Ferrari upped the power on the 512TR to I think about 420 hp, the torque also when up. The 512TR's have a stated top speed of 202mph. So on the open highway a 512TR will simply walk away from a 355. As far as maitaining a 348, 355, Testarossa, or 512TR, you will spend just about the same. They ALL have to have the engine removed for the major. The 12's will be just a little bit more because of the extra 4 cylinders. Other than that, they all cost about the same to maintain. Drive each different model then decide what you want.

Sherpa...it's gotta be a joke, either way it's far outside of the price range & consideration of what John is looking for.

348 vs 355...the horsepower, improvement & suspension, etc: well worth the money....but I suppose that's subjective, which brings me to the next point: CRITERIA

What are we looking for in comparing these cars? He HAS a 348 and plans to move to the 355 or the TR.

Is he looking for top-end speed? Out-of-the-hole quickness? Awesome handling? Value as a sports car in terms of becoming collectible? More reliability and less maintainance cost?

John....ya wana give us some more details as to what you are looking for in your next Ferrari????

I think the 355 is more practical, handles better, may be more fun to drive and will likely end up costing less to aquire and maintain. BUT the TR turns more heads, has a great top-end speed, is far likely to be more collectible but given the age & maintainance, may cost more.

Why didn't I think of that before?! I'll go out and pick up an F-40 right away from the F-40 dispenser at the local carwash...
