Patpong, there is no pride in how much you pay for something of value, only in how little... i'm not proud that i once payed close to $50 for a Hot Wheels model, but i AM proud that i once payed $5 for a Hot Wheels of the same caliber... If John paid more for his 348 than the Supra driver paid for his Supra and the Supra still won - where the pride in that...? It's with the Supra driver, that's where...
No, I've NEVER raced on the street. Got my start at the tender age of 8 racing motorcycles, and learned quickly that there is an appropriate time and place for everything. Started drag racing cars at 15 (the youngest I could be at the time in Miami). Over the speed limit, sure...but nothing like 100+ from a stoplight, I'm talkin ten to twenty over. I pretty much drive like a granny on the street. Like I said, I've have witnessed too many horrble accidents caused by street racing to even consider it. Not to mention having lost a close friend to such lunacy. Glad to hear you were jokin' about the boozin and junk. No offense intended.
sheik, no offense taken. and im not trying to sound like a j-- off, if a speed limit is posted, its posted for safety reasons. if you go over it, well, you know where im going. got any extacy?, just joking...
I know quite a few Supras ( stock interior ) running low to mid 9's all day long,i mean literally all day long so what does this PUPPY runs in a quarter ? Norwood really does amazing work but i wonder how reliable this car would be ?
John, don't let some of these folks get to you... As long as you're sober, then who cares what you do out there...? We all go fast or race once in a while... Hell, i did it today against a Mustang (in my Chrysler Sebring...? What was i thinking...?)... There's no reason to justify it by saying you were on a large road and no one was around - what's wrong with racing on a small road, in traffic...? There's maybe one person on all of FerrariChat who i can think of, who probably never goes over the speed limit...
You guy's sound like a bunch of girly men to me...."I don't want to race, I might lose and then I'd be sad"....The the f*ck is that? You're right, when you actually try anything, you might fail - boo hoo. The difference between winners and you guys is winner go home, fix what was wrong and try again. What kind of loser talk is "ferraris can't go fast"? Ferrari's come with the best engines I have ever seen the inside of. The parts that most people need to go have custom made are stock in a ferrari. My QV engine is completely stock and I run 22 psi boost, it a good engine. It is faster than MOST anything I ever come across, but I know full well the day will come when I lose....and that's ok, I'll still a good time and it's still scary fast to drive. All supras are not fast, no ferraris are slow. Sure there are Supras, vipers, vettes, ect. that will beat most ferraris, but that are also 1200 hp ferraris out there. It just costs a lot less to build a really fast supra than ferrari and most ferrari owners just don't have the balls to do it. I'd guess that's because most Ferrari owners honestly don't seem to know sh*t about working on a car....you can't hope to build a race car if you can't build a race car. Ok rant over, go back to rationalizing why it you would never race your ferrari....oh and maybe plan a track day where they're are no winners and they don't give trophies so nobody's feelings might be hurt...what a bunch of GIRLY MEN!
Mark, wow !!!!!!! take it eeezzzzzzzzzy bro, its my first f car and 1 race, yes i was sad and disapointed but im not selling my car because of it. im learning here. as someone else here said, i was the guy going home in a ferrari, MY DREAM CAR . and as far as working on cars, i can tear apart a chevy , ford etc and build you one hell of a screamer, been there quite a few times. a ferrari is a little different. i can hang with some of the best when it comes to domestic cars and creating megga hp. but a ferrari is new to me.
No I don't speed on the streets. I don't think it's a big deal that people go a few km's over the speed limit. I don't speed because in my line of work, I need my drivers liscence and can't afford to get any demerits. Having said that, going a few km's over the speed limit, and racing some other cockroach at 110 mph is a completely different story altogether. Racing at high speeds on the street is reckless. I don't know who "nick" is, but I"m not him.
Remember that's a 5 liter so 800 hp is only about 15 psi, pretty mild really....they make 1100-1200 when they turn them up to 25-30 psi! I think there are about a dozen of these car floating around and another dozen 500-800hp 308s, a few 348 and 355, there is a bolt-on supercharge for 360s that makes 600+....so they are out there. It's hard to build one and get it de-bugged becasue there just isn't much info, I couldn't find anyone who had ever supercharged a 308 when I build mine.
racing some other cockroach?? meaning im a cockroach too ??? and as far as going over the speed limit, speed limits are posted for safety reasons. and i certainly DO NOT believe you, you have raced on the street before, no offense but i think you should consider anger management.
happened to me too a few years ago in my boxer. got spanked by an 11 second civic! at that moment i knew i needed to add a car to my garage...hot rodded 930 turbo. had the engine built by andial and w/ k-29 now makes just a tad under 500rwhp. it simply explodes when the boost finally comes on! now the only cars i still worry about are 300zx tt and supras. these two cars when prepped well will kill an enzo or nearly all w/ 2 or more wheels!! and by the way, many of the supra owners can afford a ferrari if they chose to. it is easy to find sport compacts that have sunk costs far in excess of any 348/355 on the road. additionally, one only hates forced induction if you don't have it or are getting smoked by a car that does!
John, you miss my point, I think YOU are the one doing the right thing, enjoying YOUR car the way YOU like and not hiding from anyone. And don't be afraid to tear into it, the only difference to the US stuff is that the ferrari is made a lot better...and the displacement is a lot lower, so boost is about the only real option if you want to make it scream like this: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/markeberhardt/MarkFerrari.mpg
john...when you want a date w/ a supermodel you take the ferrari. when you want to go out w/ a woman that is going to screw your lights out...take the turbo porsche!!! lol don't let these folks get to you...most of us (not all) run our cars on the street a bit above the posted number and some of us are competitioned licensed and still run hard on the street at times! john, your are welcome newish member here and i love your thread as it happend to me too!! still makes me laugh remembering that night! stick around john...there are some kick azz guys out here on this site. pcb
You are absolutely correct. I used to street race when I was 16 years old and I did it for about 2 years. Those were the good old days when I had my 5.0 mustang. I'm 30 now, and haven't street raced for 12 years. It probably has something to do with the fact that one of the racers in our "group" smashed his supercharged mustang into a oncoming van....killing himself. Thankfully, the person driving the van did not have serious injuries. I guess having a fiance that I love also has something to do with my decision not to street race. So John, when is your 18 birthday?? You can't possibly be much older than that for 2 reasons: 1. You wouldn't be street racing. 2. The way you handled losing that race (making silly excuses about imitation horsepower and wanting to give the other guy the finger after he gave you the gentlemans "thumbs up") can only mean that you haven't had too many opportunities to deal with rejection. Have a great day...and watch out for those Supras. Regards, Pacman
Why do you care? Ferrari always wins, even if they lose. No one brags about climbing a moehill, only Everest. Doesn't everyone know this? Forza, Cavallini
I hope that includes tape for your eyelids because if you blink at the wrong time with that kind of midrange.... Advertising is always a good way to put money back into the rear tire fund!
pacman, 1. i have a wife and 2 kids, youngest being 3 months. 2. never gave the guy the finger, just a smile, but what i felt inside a little different i will admitt. 1. i drive a ferrari or any other sports car because, like the famous poet once said [ rain man ] im an excellent driver. i have a lot of experience in driving street rods whether it be at slow or fast speeds, i would never drive past my experince level.im not that stupid, a ittle dumb maybe? i would never jeapordize leaving my family due to an accident, nor would i jeapordize the same for someone else. 2. if i were not a gentleman, then i would of flipped the bird, but no did not. did you ever get defeated in something and still feel like sh%t or saying something negative to the other person ? well your in the same boat as everyone else, or maybe your name is jesus. im not trying to argue with you, just prove some points. as far as ferrari p, i will most deffinately take your advice, it is much appreciated, thanks, pacman, dont know what else to say, i know you hear me, your not listening. john [ cockroach].
What a ridiculous comment. A number of Supra's sell for more than Mondials, 308s, 328s, 348s and even TR's. I've seen a few highly modified supras selling from 70 to 80K. The people that are modifying these cars to 1000hp are not 18 year old high school students.
Make no mistake, John, speed limits are posted so your government can legally rob you of your hard-earned money... Why is the interstate in GA limited to 70mph but the interstate in NY is limited to 55mph...? What makes the one in GA safer than NY...? Why is the STATE speed limit in NY 55mph...? Is there NO WHERE in NY that's safe enough to go over 55mph...? Only in certain zones are speeds in GA limited to 55mph; otherwise it's 60, 65, 70 and i think even 75mph...!
