Ok here is the problem : When I start my car up and leave it idleing for about 10 -15 minutes the temp gauge starts rising "normally" however when I start driving even in traffic it drops back down to below the 140 mark. if I just start the car and go driving the gauge never moves even when in stop and go traffic, I was thinking water temp gauge sending unit but since it does move sometimes maybe a thermostat stuck ???? Any ideas ?

So the guage reads when the car is stationary but drops off when the car moves?

Sounds like the guage is working OK- thermostat is missing or stuck.

The only one I'm aware of is the one attached to the water pump:

You of course are correct, When I looked at teh workshop manual yesterday it is #2 in the pic when checking back between the 4 diff language I took the 2 to mean 2 thermostats (musta been hanging out with too many blondes) Didn't phase me too much as I figured well what the hell there are two radiators :)

Have a look at the connection on the back of the water temperature guage. To get to it you have to remove the instrument console. It is really easy. All you do is take out the screws at the bottom corners of the instrument console, then lift the bottom of the console up and off. Now you will be able to see the wires, and the clip going into the back of the gauge. Oh yeah it makes it easier to lift the console up if you have the stearing wheel adjusted all the way down. Now if that doesn't do the trick then you are gonna have to look at the water temperature sensors. They are located underneath the intake plenum on the cross over pipe. You will have to remove the air filter box for easier access. There are two one on the front and the other on the back of the pipe under the plenum. Make sure that they are connected properly. If you are still having the problem after that then, I think you have a bad water temperature sensor/s. You will need to replace them because they run the cooling fans, and some other things. Hope I was of some help.

    Exactly.
This will lost likely work. Good advice here.
I had the same problem, to a "T"; and fixed it by simply cleaning the plug to the sensor and plugging it back in under the plenum. This did the trick, no further issues.

I got a few minutes tonight and cleaned the contacts on the gauge and sending unit, I let the car idle until the fans kicked on, gauge was moving up "normally", when the fans kicked on the gauge dropped its reading to about 170 and it stayed there for about 2 minutes so I backed it out and started driving about 40mph ( it was in the neighborhood) about 3 blocks away the gauge dropped to rest position and a few seconds later it jumped up to bout 195 and right back down, all the while the fans were still on so I'm thinking sending unit ??????
