348 brothers Rejoice !! Since this stupid weather has taken away my driving time, I figured I'd spend some quality cleaning time on the car. I bought 5 diff types of black paint and found the perfect one for those wheel wells. Rust-oleum industrial flat black enamel. The before pic is even after soap and water!!! Talk about brand new!!!! SCHAWING!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
looks fantastic ! the paint you used , is it also the same type that was used (at one time, I suppose) on tyres to make them look new ? Its a type of paint that remains very flexible , even when dried.
Wow, time definety well spent!! Ummm, did you consider if the paint chips or peels from the plastic? sorry if I put a hole in your beer can. It looks fabulous though.
oh well.. there goes my weekend!!! My wife asked me what I do for so long out in the garage... me - "I was just cleaning the car" her - "how clean can you get it? you were out there 3 hours" me - "......... I had no idea... it only seemed like 30 minutes" LOL Here's a pic of the stuff I got at Lowes. You can put it on pretty thick too. I taped off anything with threads along with any rubber gromets/bushings etc... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually I saw a couple other products at PEP Boys as well which were like a rubber underbody spray. It was a big can (like hold with 2 hands and pray..). I'll see how this holds and go that route if need be. It may look better and be more useful as well - maybe even some sound deadening...?
I used that sound deadening spray on the inside of my truck doors years ago. Just a heads up the one i used came out like rubber spray, just as you described. I don't think it will look as good as what you did now. I think there is a paint company that puts out a spray paint that you can spray outdoor plastic/pvc furniture with and its supposed to flex with temp changes. Your well wheels look FANTASTIC.
I want to do mine also...just be careful around the AC condensor vent...don't want to get paint in there...esp if you use the rubberized coating.
Yea, that plastic spray is one of the first ones I tried. I think it was Krylon "Fusion". It said "black" but turned out more of a "blue / black". Had to scrape the crap off. It did go on REALLY well though...
the wheel wells are made of fiberglass. i recommend a flat or satin enamel spray, as it will not hold as much dirt and water as the rubberized underbody spray. save that for the frame body.
