I need a 1990 348 windsheild. Does anyone know where I can get one without breaking the bank?
Race shops will happily fabricate a lexan windshield for your 348 for less than the cost of a heavy OEM glass windshield. The trade-off is the light-weight lexan will only go a year or two before the minor scratches it accumulates becomes unbearable. If you must have glass on the cheap, there is a windshield fabricator in Germany who periodically advertises new 348 windshields on eBay. Otherwise, start contacting the breakers. The UK seems to break 348s better than anyone else. *also, the big deal with replacing a 348 windshield is the chrome wrap-around trim. Very easy to bend which makes it tough to re-use. You can spend almost as much on the trim as the glass if you can't re-use the old trim.
There are several on Ebay. The best price is $899. Try 348 windshield in the search box. Doesn't your insurance cover the windshield damage? I think I will make a call to State Farm on Monday to make sure mine does.
The ones you see on ebay have no antenna in the glass and are not OEM which is fine if you do not care and your model does not need the antenna, but if you have a newer 348 that requires it then the ebay ones will do you no good. You will have to replace the aluminum frame, there is no way to save and re-use it and it alone costs right about $800.00, which is crazy. I replaced my windshield less than a year ago and went through all of this as I had to have the antenna embedded in the glass as I have a 95 model and I wanted OEM. I found this company called Pro Source Glass International that I bought my new windshield from: http://prosourceglassintl.com/contact.html Contact Richard, very nice guy he had a few OEM 348/355 windshields with the embedded antenna back when I bought mine from him, not sure if he still has any now.
