    Hi all. Okay, I've been lucky so far and have been enjoying ownership very much (especially now the sun's out)...With my only problem to date being a sticky petrol flap. However, in the last couple of days a couple of electrical gremlins have reared their ugly heads.

    I thought I'd seek a bit of advice on here first before taking the car to my local auto-electrician (who will strip the car, immobilise it, and well, proceed to charge me whatever the f**k he likes).

    The problems all seem to be 'rear lights' related. ie: The reverse lights flicker when shifting between 1st and 2nd and one of the break lights works intermittently. Is there a quick diagnostic I can perform before handing over to my dollar-vacuum of an Electrician????

    Thanks in advance and kind regards

    Mark

    Hi, Mark;

    Your reversing lights problem is about 99% likely to be caused by the foam ring at the base of the shift lever pushing on the switch while shifting. Just remove the shift gate (two screws) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

    If just one of the brake lights is acting up, then it isn't the switch, and it isn't the wiring to the back of the car. It's either the bulb itself or a dirty connection at the light housing. Should be easy to fix without involving an electrician. Try a new bulb first. We'll explain the procedure to you if you need a hand.
