Guys, I am running my 348 with 355 wheels at the moment. As they are 355 wheels they have standard size (for a 355) tyres 265/40 R18 on the back and 225/40 R18 on the front.
I am considering changing the rear tyres for 255/40 R18 which would bring them down to almost exactly the same size (width and rolling radius) as the oe 348 fitment 255/45 R17.... basically going down a size on width.
Does anyone know if 255 section tyres work on 355 rims? or is anyone running 255/40 R18 tyres on the back of their 355 and have any comments?
As it stands the front tyres on the 355 rims are smaller in rolling radius than the oe 215/50 R17s of the 348 wheels, so I am wondering if I will get a better visual balance as well by going down a width on the back. I don't gun or track the car, so am not looking for absolutely ulitmate grip, just for the balance to look 'right' and to get some decent rubber on......

I've never heard of anyone going smaller on the back...I'm not sure what the issue is. IMO, 265's start to look a little stretched on the 355 rims so I wouldn't go less than that. I run 245 front and 275 rear on my 355...

    A) You can easily fit 255/40s on the F355 rear wheels

    B) You can lower the rear ride hieght and run F355 tires sizes on F355 wheels. This accomplishes everything you want to do with the 255/40 fitment, while providing more grip at the rear. I run 275/40 tires on my F355 (wheels).

Why would you want to run smaller tires??? The whole point of going to larger wheels is so you can use wider tires. Wider tires = more traction. More traction = better handling. The only people I know of that use narrow wheels and tires are people doing top speed runs on the Salt Flats. So if you aren't planning a trip to the Slat Flats what's the point?

After trying several larger size tires on the rear of my 355 ...... I will be going back to stock, for the simple reasons of reduced unsprung weight and rotating mass of the stock size vs the larger tires ............. and since I do not track my 355 ...... I don't see the need for wider tires .......

That said ...... on the 348s I have seen with 355 wheels ........ I think they look best with a 285/35-18 rear tire ....... it is slightly smaller in diameter than a stock 355 tire ....... I believe it is closer to the stock 348 diameter ........ the sidewalls do not look over stretched and in my opinion looks 'just right' on the 348 ......

It may seem odd, but I was playing around with a tyre size calculator and it turned out that a 255/40 R18 is almost exactly the same rolling radius as a standard 255/45 R17, that is why I was looking at it... to get as close to stock as possible. The width is also the same as original equipment.
I just wanted to see if the narrower tyres would fit on the 355 rims without causing any issues and to see if anyone had any experience of it. I am not sure I am going to do it, just looking for opinions.
I don't track the car so b@lls-out, limit of adhesion driving is not really a major concern for me - this is just a street car. I am interested to know if the car will look odd with the narrower tyre on a 355 rim and any other thoughts. I get that part of the reason for going for 355 wheels is to run fatter rubber, I am just not sure I want to in this case yet.

.... I am running 355 rims on my 92ts and I have gone the wider look. Sits nicer rides smoother and fills the wheel arches better !

    Front....

225/40/18 Pirelli P Zero (Rosso) with Hills Engineering 15mm spacers

    Rear....

295/35/18 Pirelli P Zero (Rosso) with Hills Engineering 25mm spacers.

I find I get a smoother ride and the spacing has actually given the car a more stable feeling, less steering chatter and a more steady feeling cornering although I am no track junky so can't say what the top end performance is like.. They claim the rear spacing also helps with high speed braking into corners and the tendancy for the bum to flick out on the 348's !

    I run 295/35 with spacers.
The tire does not bulk out of the rim. Looks great, but couldnt keep me on the track though...
