I read that someone installed a 355 gear box to a 348? Well first you must know that the 348 makes 70hp less than the 355. Plus the max hp on the 348 is 310 at 7200-7250. Redline is 7500-7700. The 355 has a redline of 8500-8700. It's a high rev engine. The top speed of the 348 coupe is 174. The 355 has a 6 to 8 mph difference in top speed because of the engine. The top gear in both cars are the same, but the ring and pinion lyes the tail of the tape. 4.35 is going to go slower than 3.88 - which the 348 carries in it's melon. So if you have a 348 and you were able to spin the engine to 8500 and make 400hp at that rpm, you would own the highway. But you would have to have a 348 coupe because of aerodynamics.

No one mentioned trying to spin the 348 engine up to 8,500rpm, so what's the relevance of that?

(And a 348 with 400 hp and a 355 6 speed 'box still isn't going to "own the highway" as there are plenty of modern, bog standard production cars available now that would absolutely urinate on it without batting an eyelid!)

As for: "you would have to have a 348 coupe because of aerodynamics": The 348's use of aerodynamics is rudimentary to say the least, be it a TB/GTB, a TS/GTS or a Spider.

The aerodynamic difference between a TB/GTB, and a TS/GTS with the roof panel in place is negligible. With the roof panel off then there will be a difference, but not enough to decree that a TS/GTS could not deal with 400hp (even a Spider will not become some sort of undriveable monster with 400hp!).

Andy, good job! I was honestly thinking to do it too.

I saw several F348 with the six speed transmission and I also saw one with the F1 paddles. Probably the best looking one was the Stacey's challenge. He works at my friend Steven Maxwell shop in San Diego (I think that he sold the car). He took the time to fabricate the aluminum supports and brackets with a CNC machine. So, it looks factory. He told me that with the turbo the 1st, and 2nd... felt like the same...

here is a picture of his car next to mine (Stacey is the yellow and I have the red).
Also here you can see the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KajL7klumA

How much would this transmission swap cost in the end(total cost)? I am wanting a 6 speed ferrari and the 348 does not have all the BS maintenance the 355 does. I would love to buy a 348 and do a 6 speed 355 transmission swap into it. Please let me know. Thank you all =]

    Really?

355s shoukd by now have all their BS maintenance done. More fear mongering.

But instead of a one time fix of headers and maybe valve guides you'll put in a 355 trans in a 348 to save money?

Yeah that will be cheaper. (sarcasm)
