Does a 348 with tubi sound as good as a 355 with tubi? If not, why- is it different lengths of the exhaust tubes? Seems the motors are very similar with the exception of the 5th valve of the 355 intake....

Umm I would say a 348 would sound better :D but ask Chaa and he would say a 355

    Why, I reckon it's because of the 0.1L of displacement plus I have a 348 :p :D

I have a spare copy of Chaa's 355 handbook, I can have a flip though it if you should require more information ;)

It's a well known fact the F355 is the BEST sounding car in the world.

348 or 355 regardless of exhaust set-up sound absolutely nothing alike.

In my opinion, the only reason I can gather a 355 sounding better that a 348 is because of the bypass valve. Once it opens then you don't have the cats muffling any of the sound. I would be curious to hear the difference between a 355 & 348 both running test pipes and a Tubi. I don't think there would be that much difference if any.

    LOL

5 valves, hotter cams, larger displacement, individual throttle bodies with long intake runners give the 355 its F1 shriek and extra power

The 348s motor sound is typically drowned out by mini vans and Civics exhaust note passing them

ugh...these responses have turned me off to either car due to the graphic nature of the posted pictures-ha!!

I know the 355 sounds awesome with the tubi, but heard a couple impressive clips of 348's w/tubi on youtube. I rented a 348 spider on my honeymoon years ago and that sounded great, but didn't have a tubi, so was quieter than I'd imagine with a tubi.

I'd consider a 348 spider w/tubi to lower the cost of moving to ferrari ownership, but when I stop and think of it, the 355 spider is really the car I want...not so much for the incremental performance improvement or incremental sound difference if the 348 with tubi sounds 85-90% as good (and certainly not for the high maintence power top, valve guides or manifolds), but for the interor and exterior design- I just love it. I get the sense from being on this board the past couple of years a 348 is considerably less expensive to own (although still expensive) in addition to being $25K less on initial purchase given similar condition.

He, I would do but it's the uniform I don't like, those socks just aint my colour mate! I just looked at your thread with the exhaust pipes Pap, interesting stuff. My 348 has a set of ANSA pipes (OLD and have Ferrari stamped on them ??) and no cats, some one has welded bolts into the holes in the manifold where i should imagine there were once sensors, it's been chipped also and puts out 300.0 bhp acording to the dyno report i got with the car, there is another figure that says 'normal power 311.5bhp to din 70020' do you know what that means? Lord Vader... While I'm on a roll I may as well post next years quota of questions now.....

Yours must sound like a weapon

As far as I can see the 300.0 must be at the rollers and the 311.5
DIN horsepower is the power measured according to the German standard DIN 70020. It is measured at the flywheel ;)

Cheers for that, I'm quite happy with those figures, especially as some one else paid for the mods !! The Garage that sold me the car didn't have a clue what had been done to it and to be honest neither did I until I read through all the invoices! I still find it strange that the exhaust is plainly not stock but it has Ansa Ferrari stamped on it. Never mind. I just had what may be my last drive for a while as they have started putting salt on the roads. Probably a good thing as my new tyres don't arrive for 6 WEEKS!
