Hi all, I have a 1996 348 Spider which seems to have developed an unusual fault in so much as at first, the radio & pod fans came back on, after key was removed (but then went off again after a few seconds) but this became more & more common, (and not going off at all) then in the later stage the engine wouldn't turn off when the key was removed either! so I had to stall it and use the battery isolator

Has anyone had this problem / can guide me in the the right direction? as I have had it into a performance specialist who has had it all over the winter only to ring me today to say he's at a loss and come & collect it!

We have tried all the obvious such as faulty Ignition switch
So any ideas gratefully received !
    Thanks
    Dave UK

If it were my car would start by investigating the ignition switch in the steering column.

    1996?

Does the car have an aftermarket alarm system?

Try disconnecting the radio, or pulling the fuse for it. The radio is a common point where ignition on 12 volts is present, and full time 12 volts is also present. A faulty radio or wiring could backfeed 12 volts to the ignition when the key was turned off.

Me thinks yes too. It couldn't even be a typo: In 1986 or 1969 there weren't any 348s around :)

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

That's being a bit quick to judge!

It could be a late '95 spider that wasn't registered until '96 and so the owner has mistakenly referred to it as being a '96.

Not everyone is an expert on Ferrari model history! - The benefit of the doubt wouldn't go amiss sometimes!

Thanks 4REPhill As yes the car was 1st registered in Germany on 1.1. 96 think it must be one of the last to be registered as the 355 came out in late 1995

Hi Nuno & Ernie & VR Surgeon
Thanks for your thoughts, but they have isolated the ignition switch and also changed the realy but no difference

Just to clarify; the car was 1st registered in Germany on 1.1. 96 think it must be one of the last to be registered as the 355 came out in late 1995

dpospres; Thanks dont think they have tried the radio angle

2NA; Not sure if it is aftermarket, but it has a VDO imobiliser which has a round plug type key which fits into a recepticle in the centre console to actiavte the ignition but they have isolated that too

Thanks so far for all thoughts
    Regards Dave (U.K.)

Thanks, for that dposres, they haven't tried the radio, it is an aftermarket MP3 player type thing, but it along with the side pod fans coming back on where the start of the problem so it may well have some merit (which further developed into the engine also not turning off)

No problem Dave, my mistake to be quick on the draw to judge and I apologise. We see so much misleading in this world that sometimes we don't give newcomers the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for your clarification and welcome!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Check the wiring at the alternator plug. You may have to open the harness cover to inspect the wiring. I had one do this exact same thing to me. Drove me nuts for almost a week.

I thought that was going to be the case (happens quite often here in the UK with late production cars).

I can't help with your problem unfortunately, but if and when you do find the solution please post it as it could be useful information for someone else in the future.

    Hope you get it sorted!
