Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the X-OST brand exhaust systems? I am looking for an upgrade for the stock exhaust and was going to look for a Tubi system. I have never heard of the X-OST brand, however I could buy one for under $2000. I doubt anyone would sell me a Tubi for that price. Are they comparable to the Tubi? Sound as good? Performance gains as well? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks Steve
Lots of us have the 348 X-OST system on our cars (myself included!) I'll let them share their experiences. For me, I love it!
Here is some light reading!! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119316&highlight=xost&page=5 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126074&highlight=xost&page=2 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133895&highlight=xost&page=2 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132911&highlight=xost&page=4
Do It Here is a crappy 'before' video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk6QiECE8kw Here is a crappy 'after X-Ost' video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ7hjVW9KAY Another (not mine) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLk76AGp6lY
There are a lot of happy buyers here. From the video clips, the tubi seems a bit more bassier in lower rpms but the X OST has a much nicer top end scream. IMO, the X-OST exhaust will be lighter than stock, sound much nicer but would not add any horsepower. By contrast, a set of hyperflow cats would free up some power but not change the sound much. Thus to get power and sound you need cats + exhaust mods. Buy from Ricambiamerica.com I would love to install the X-OST + Hyperflow cats in my car. I look at the Ricambi website every month lusting after these two beauties ... hoping for a drastic cut in price due to some miracle. Sadly, my bank balance currently resembles the Grand Canyon and it would take some months of mending before I can man up and request Daniel to send those puppies over to me.
Since a year there are lots of members of the brotherhood that are real fanatic about X-ost. Before that started I bought a Tubi. I'm very satisfied with it, just love the sound: this is what a Ferrari is supposed to sound like. Allthough I felt like that I advised my friend "Henkie" (moderator of the Dutch sub-section), who was in doubt, to buy a X-ost for his 348 TB because of the enthousiasm of the brotherhood. I'm afraid it was the wrong advise. It was cheaper but it didn't sound quite as nice as my car, I think he even agreed to it. Henkie replaced his 348 with a 360 and sold his X-ost separately, I could have bought it cheap and sell the tubi but didn't think of it a split of a second. The tubi sounds so much nicer at high revs. This doesn't make X-ost a bad choice but when you hear a 348 with a Tubi you won't be able to think other than: I could have had one if I had spent a couple of bucks more. My advice: go and listen to cars and then make your choice. I'm afraid video's can't help you, you should hear them IRL. P.S. I never heard a 348 IRL with any Cat replacement whatsoever, so can't judge that. Another friend has test pipes on his 512 TR, great (!) but only when you feel like that (my neighbours even called the police when I just idled my car for a few minutes with the tubi, Holland is too crowded).
Join the brotherhood! There are different levels. I have a stage3(race) and a spider with test pipes. I'm smiling every where I go in it! Scott
Absolutely. Audio clips are subject to so many variables. Type of microphone, location, the speakers a listener plays back the audio clip on, the bass and treble settings etc. etc. I would not say audio clips are useless but certainly can be misleading, as a minimum, compared to hearing something in person.
X-OST, via Competizione in Gaithersburg, MD in August '07, is on my 1988 Mondial 3.2..very pleased..go for it. Chris
UK 348 guys had a sound off and the winner was a 348 with Tubi, test pipes and BMC air filters. X-Ost was very loud and aggressive sounding. If you've got issues with your neighbours you should consider a Capristo Twin-Sound. IMHO it's the best by far. Build quality Tubi + a bit. It's valved so fully open/fully closed via a key fob. Fully open the sound is like an X-Ost down low, mid-range is F1 shriek and top end aggressive howl. Multi-layered sound, which makes it unique.
Here is my "famous" 348 sound clip. In real life the Tubi is louder. The 348 engine is not a real "screaming" engine like the 355 and 360, but my mate's 348 with tubi was nicer, or perhaps we should say different. As we have all different tastes huh A pair of testpipes would improve things nicely I think. Pricewise ? A Tubi was 40% more expensive here. http://123video.nl/playvideos.asp?MovieID=155146&View=my&ClearEnvironment=True
I had the unfortunate experience of following a Tubi equipped 348 Spider for many miles on a high-speed run up to Monterey and on some canyon runs. It was truly an irritating and painful experience. Way too noisey and screeches when it doesn't need to. Goth's Capristo is great. X-Ost would be nice too, in the lower stages. Those 3's are just too much for long distance driving and I value my hearing. You need to think about your high frequency hearing loss if you spend too much time with your ear in a jet engine.
Thanks for all the "sound" advice! I spoke with Daniel at Ricambi today as well. He sounds confident in the system, offering a full cash refund if I was disappointed in way. He stated that I would not be. Pap, the dyno sheet is great! Thanks for posting. It's nice to see a real deal comparison. I think I will post a poll question and see what results I return. Steve
No worries Steve That sounds like a good idea, Make sure you get a 'before' and 'after' dyno sheet for us to compare with mine
Hi guys, After a VERY long absence (I have been working in scotland, England and Lanzarotte (Canary Islands, Spain) for the past 7 months) it's good to be back, I have just been reunited with my 348 TODAY after her having a major service in Scotland, (£4,500 !!!) after not seeing her since May. On the exhaust side of things, mine as some of you know has an ANSA system, does anyone else have one of these or am I odd?? All the best to you all Steve.
