I have been looking to pick up a 355 or 348 spyder. A lot of what I read is pretty disparaging of the 348s attributes. Is the 355 that much better than the 348???? Why is the 348 looked down upon???? Have any of you guys owned both???? Can you compare/contrast????

    Thanks in advance.

If you run a search, you will find volumes of information about this comparison. After you do this, I'm sure that there will be many people who would be happy to answer your specific questions. Good luck!

This thread will probably get moved to the "Classic" section, where the 348 lives.

Have a look here http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24897 regarding the 348 crowd.

I don't want to speak for every 348 owner out there, but mine is bloody fantastic.

    Cheers

Be careful here!! As Kevin suggested, us 348-owners are a fiercely loyal and bloodthirsty bunch. :) Having driven a 99 355 F1, I can say (personally), it's not for me. The power steering creeped me out, and the F1 was disturbingly abrupt in its shifting. Do I love the 355 intakes and round taillights, you bet ! Would I swap for my 348? Probably not right now...

Check with Vincent355 about his thoughts. He's pretty qualified to answer the question.

    My 2cents.

I have about equal amount of seat time in both now. Road trips, short trips, fun trips, local trips, trips to the store....you get the picture.

I like both cars, but the 355 is a better car. Faster, more room (i'm 6-2), handles better, great gearbox, overall just a better car. The power steering is the one thing that takes geting used to, especially after driving a 348 which feels so raw and connected to the road. It took me a while, and though I still like the feel of the 348, I like the 355 better. The 348 was a radical design change for Ferrari, unibody being one of the biggest leaps. The problem was when it came out it wasn't the fastest thing out there. And after the Testarossa, fastest production car for a while, people were dissapointed. The 355 came out to mush more acclaim as Ferrari was once again the fastest! for a while.

Keep in mind, I'm a big proponent of the 348. It was a great car for me, and if I could have both I would. Canyon carving in the 348 was really a hoot, and I miss it. Also keep in mind that comparable models coupe to coupe, GTS to TS, etc. are not in the same price range. If that is a factor the 348 is an awesome car with good performance, great sound, and a superb road feel. It definitely has SOUL!

At some point, I would like to own a vintage Ferrari. Carbed, no power steering, and glorious exhaust note. Except for the carbs the 348 is a modern example of classic car. IMO.

You should drive both and see what YOU think. I like them both and the 348's are a good value right now. Both cars are head turners as well, you won't be dissapointed with either one, but if you're looking for HP get a 355 or put twin turbos on the 348 :D
