According to the parts manuals - both the 360 and the 348 share the same part number for the oil filter (#197654)

Yes. And if this is the first time you're doing it, make DARN SURE you empty the engine oil, not the transmission. A few fellow Fchatters have made that mistake, with really painful results.

The oil plug faces FORWARD toward the front of the car. The tranny plug faces stright down.

WHOOOOOAAAAAA!!!!!! DO NOT OPEN THE OIL PLUG ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE! The oil drain plug for the engine is at the front of the engine, on the side of the a/c compressor. You will need a 12mm allen wrench to remove the engine drain plug. You will see the words "sacare olio" on the engine were the plug is. The other plug that is on the bottom of the engine is for the oil pressure relief valve. DO NOT mess with that one. The other plug you will need to drain is at the back of the engine bay, on the bottom of the oil tank. Be careful not to cross thread that drain bolt when you put it back in the tank. Also don't over tighten it. The both the tank and the bottom of the are made out of aluminium, and the treads are know to get stripped if over tightend. If you need to get a new washer you can use a nylon washer of the tank plug.

Be extremely careful when tightening up the oil sump plug in the back! I stripped it and so have a lot of people..I believe 15 ft/lbs of torque is enough...

I am doing this tomorrow and am extremely nervious. Let me get this right- 2 bolts need to be opened to effectively drain the oil. 1 below the motor near the A/c compressor and the other in the oil filler tank at the rear right of the engine bay.
To replace the filter, I guess the air boxe needs to be taken out right?
    Please let me know

No need to be nervous. The advice given will help. Yes, on my 348 spider I must remove the airbox. Looks close but the filter will not come out otherwise.

you got it. The drain plug underneath the motor faces FORWARD (not DOWN) and uses a 12 mm allen wrench. It is hidden under a grooved panel that must come off. IT DOES NOT FACE DOWN. DO NOT OPEN THE ONE THAT FACES DOWN TOWARD THE GROUND. That is the oil pressure relief bolt. Airbox does need to come out to get to the filter. Ive only down it 1 time...it was easy except for stripping the bolt underneath oil sump tank in the rear...These threads are so soft...so definitely do not overtighten! A good hand snug is fine. Don't re-use the copper crush washers....just get new ones...I would fill it with 10-11 quarts of oil and then take the car on a 15 min drive. Make sure the oil gets nice and warm....Over 160 at least. Then check the oil level. From what I have read here, most people seem to fill to about 80% of max.. Good luck, if I can do....Anybody can!!!!
