I am very close of buying a 348GTB and I live in Stockholm, Sweden. I have had several sportscars already, but always dreamt of a Ferrari. Now the dream seems to come through. I have driven my cars as everyday cars, I don't keep them in the garage for just Sunday drives on the countryside. A question though, how is the car performing in morning rush hours, with a stiff clutch and lack of power steering? Is it a nightmare? Of course it is a great car on highways and such, but I want to drive my car, not just look at it.

I have a 348 ts. I don't use it every day but I have never had any problem with it in morning rush hours etc. The engine will happily cope with burbling along at low revs in a traffic jam. The clutch is fine and doesn't bother me in traffic. The steering is really no problem except for parking. It is great as soon as you have a bit of throttle. You do need to be bit careful where you park because you need a lot of space to open the doors to get in and out and sometimes other drivers don't realise that and don't leave too much space!

My 348 is a daily driver. The biggest obstacle for me is some of the
rougher roads. Watch that front bumper, speed bumps are serious business.
Handling, clutch, etc are no problem. Ditto on the parking, need lots of door space to get in and out. I don't drive if the weather is going to be wet as I suffer from leaks around the windows and the targa. Otherwise....I wouldn't trade for anything!

As much as I love my 348, I would never consider it for daily car. It's a pain to take anything but yourself, and worrying about some idoit throwing thier door into it would ruin my entire day. Plus, you won't get much work done, as you'll find any reason to leave the office or leave early to drive it more.

All the pre-purchase tips are great! A question though: one of the things said on that website says: "When you first turn the ignition key to "run" (not "Start"), do you see both Check Engine (non-Euro cars) and both Slow Down lights? This is important, because if those bulbs have been removed or replaced with dead bulbs, engine trouble computer codes are probably being hidden from you. Do you see the ABS light and the BRAKE light?"

Since I live in Sweden (EU), what DO I look for when turning the key to "run" mode? There are very seldom US-Ferraris on the European market.

    Once again, thanks.

No Check Engine lights will come on at start up in the Euro cars. Its normal. I would not use the car as a daily driver. I love my 348 to death but the few times I have had to use it for a week as a daily driver, by the end of the week I ended up hating it. You will not appreciate the car as much, drive it when YOU WANT TO, not because YOU HAVE TO. You will bang it up good too using it daily. Go out and buy a cheapy car for your commute, the amount of money you spend on a 2nd car you will save 5 fold on the 348.

The 348 wasn't the most solid car Ferrari built, while the GTB is the 348 to be looking at anything else and you'll run into problems driving it everyday. If your budget can afford it I would suggest a early F355 or even a 88.5 328. I know owners of 348s are very passionate but hey just my two cents. Here is a 10 page guide which you can get off Amazon.com for the 348. I think they also have a F355 write up:

Best of luck in your search.

Don't listen to this guy when making your choice. His profile isn't complete so I don't know if he ever owned one, but by this comment I would think not.

I use my 348TS every day, rain or sunshine, roof leaking, through traffic, in all carparks etc. THe only casualty is usually the front bumper (though I lost one bumper fog light recently when the bumper caught on something and twisted sufficiently to break the light).

Sure, parking is not as easy without the power steering, but just think of it as exercise...
