348tb clock

Hi,
I have posted in the 'technical Q & A' section but probably would have better luck here.
I recently purchased my first Ferrari and have a couple of items that i need to fix.
The digital clock in the console is displaying gibberish. Depressing the two tiny buttons only causes the gibberish to continue.
Any advice about repair or replacement would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by gibberish, but you can try the following:

1. Depress left button first to enter time setting mode. Press right button to set time and left button to cycle through hours, minutes, seconds.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable at bullet quick-disconnect point, wait a minute, reconnect and start car letting it idle for 15 minutes to reset ECU's. Then go back to step 1 and try resetting clock.
3. Clean the electrical contacts on the back of the HVAC unit (which houses the clock) with electrical contact cleaner and Stabilant 22a. Electrical connections are the culprit for a myraid of gremlins on these cars.

If you can find a new replacement HVAC unit you don't want to know what it costs. Wiser people than me can chime in on attempting to repair the unit.

If I could make a friendly suggestion... rather than posting each problem you have in a single thread... may be better (and a little less annoying for some), to wait until you have a complete list of your problems and put them all in a single thread. That way some knowledgeable folks here will only have to respond to one thread with helpful comments

I had a clock problem when I purchased my 348 and it turned out to be a bent pin on the connector to the main HVAC unit from when the major service was done and stabilant 22a was applied.
Tillack checked out the issue for me and found the bent pin and fixed it as well as my battery was shot so got that replaced as well and now everything works properly.
And just for the record, I was qouted $2k for a replacement HVAC unit when it was first thought that might be the issue and fortunately it was just straightening a bent pin and a new battery.

Bubs, i will try your suggestion of reseting the clock and checking and cleaning the connections. What is Stabilant 22a?
Jeff, thanks for the info. I don't know if i would be able to justify forking out $2,000 for a digital clock! I was thinking that the clock would be a seperate unit.
I will try out the suggestions and post the final remedy (hopefully!).

The clock is unfortunately part of the HVAC control system. Never-the-less, welcome to the wonderful (and bank account draining) world of Ferrari replacement parts!

 

Can we assume that you have an Owners Manual, and you know the procedure to set the clock?

It might be worthwhile to try just unplugging the gang plug from the back of the HVAC unit for a few seconds, and then plugging it in again, just to "reboot". Also, the power source for the HVAC and the clock comes through the INFAMOUS "hidden fuse" in the trunk, and this is a notorious spot for voltage fluctuations.

Edit: Steve - my brother, who knows more than a thing or two about electronics, explained to me why it is his opinion that products like Stab 22 are snake oil. I'm sure many do not agree.

I guess that it would make too much sense to have a seperate digital clock module. In Porsche-land all the switches and components are individual... score 1 for the Germans.... the fact that their switches are scattered around the dash and console in a totally random and non-logical manner aside.

I do in fact have an owner's manual and have tried reseting the clock a few times according to the instructions. No matter what i do the display is nonsense. I like the idea of unplugging the entire module to try to reboot the clock. I will try that one as it looks like i will have the console apart to get at those burnt out console switch lights. Now where is that 'infamous' secret trunk fuse??

On a sidenote.... i purchased my car from Japan. I am the second owner. The original owner bought the car from Hollywood Sports Cars in California and had it shipped to Japan. I tried to Google Hollywood Sports Cars and it appears that they are no longer in business.... can anyone confirm this or have info regarding this dealer?
