    Hi,

Where I'm living actually there are not many Ferrari 348 available, and import from neighborhood country will cost 20% additional plus all the transport stuffs

I find a 348TS .. which is looking relative cheap ... just got my first contact with the dealer by phone (the car is over 250km far from my place), and he told me that it got repaint and with new interior ... but he said , this has no crash (ups ... which seller will state that was crashed)

Any idea why somebody would repaint and refurbish inside, unless it was a crash , or something quite bad ?

Going to get the VIN soon .. so I can check more , but not sure how much I can dig it out.

The dealer will not offer any guarantee, but ihe can allow an inspection of the Ferrari dealer which is few Km far from his show room ... guess it will be a must for me in case, but I'm not sure what they will be able to spot ... and possibly they may be even in good relation the two "saloon"

Since I will be over 200km from the nearest Ferrari service ... this will be another issue which I should take care ... in my town I can possibly get service by a big Porsche garage .. does it make any sense ?

Thanks in advance for any info

ps: I can get locally a used Porsche Boxer for 1/3 of the price ... but a Ferrari is a Ferrari ... and 348 is really a nice car for a very interesting price

If it was left out in sunlight all the time, the leather could shrink and crack. That is what happened to my car, and the dash was re-upholstered before I bought it.

The paint...depends on the amount of re-spray. Seller could mean the front bumpers were done (common at some point in the lives of these low height cars), or touch-ups done due to rock chips flying up during general driving.

It doesn't take much to fade the carpet and ferrari leather to crack etc. How many under 20k mile cars have we seen with serious side bolster wear? Also people like to keep their cars in top condition. A repaint does not always imply a crash or other issue. if the history checks out, just put it up to maintaining the car

+1, might be a gem previously owned by a fastidious owner who did a restoration of the paint and interior so it looked new. Go look at the car and drive it, you will likely know if it's a piece of crap. If it seems good to you, then have it inspected by a trusted shop.

    Thanks for reply

I guess that restoration have been done after the car has been imported, so, it must be imported in quite a bad shape, paying also little money for import it

Speaking with an friend who does collect historical cars and bikes, his bet is that the car may got flooded, and imported cheap for this reason. This is the most likely explanation, or a crash that ruin the interiors too

I'm still waiting for the VIN, also I will try to get information about previous owner

This car is sold without service paper, while the TB on the same saloon has service paper .. it is 'only' 20% more the TB , has less km (45k vs 85k) but is 2y older ... the TB has original paint and interiors .... still TS is more 'sexy' then TB

These two 348 are the only one for sell in the country, my friend says that here there is not much passion for Ferrari, so as investment make sense only if resold abroad ... but I plan to hold the car no less then 25y in case ... so investment is only an excuse for realize a child 'dream'

I would'nt jump to the conclusion it is flooded....remember the car is over 20 years old.....interiors fade, paint fades or gets stone chipped (the local ferrari dealer paints the front bumpers, sometimes hood and front fenders of the trade ins just to make the cars perfect).
To check for flood damage pull some interior panels and look behind....for evidence of a "uboat".

You are right ... I got the VIN in the meanwhile and I got the old Netherland plate ...

So, maybe the seats have been renew, but the leader on console is possibly still original, so no flood most probably

I did run VIN history, buy history end in 2010 since mid 2010 the car 'inspection' was expired too. There is 5 years of hole ... guess it must be not used since then ...

The car was born in blue, and then it became black ... now it is red ... I have seen some photos left on the net (Netherlands has a site for report spotted car) ... and I see that at some point in Netherland in mid 200x lost the bertone sticker ...,but was apparently looking in perfect shape

Due to the car plate I even track a comment on FerrariChat in the Dutch thread ... it does sound it got crashed ...

Anyhow ... I plan to make a inspection by Local Official Ferrari dealer ... any suggestion about what I should ask for check ? Any idea how much cost this service? Do they also release a paper that has any value for keep in the car history ...

But for what I can see ... this Ferrari 348 is not going to be a collection queen ... it has a story like a b!tch for what I can see.

In the optic to keep the car over 10/20y and then eventually sell ... will this bad history make any mayor devaluation ? Or still it may be a reasonable investment ... considering that this will also an acquisition for satisfy a passion

Yeah, honestly, I wouldn't worry unless there is good evidence that something could be amiss. My 348 is very sound, and I'm planning to redo the paint and interior, neither of which are bad, I just really want it to be perfect. Already resprayed the nose to eliminate rock chips a few years back and it came out looking so nice that it started me down the slippery slope, I fear...

    Thanks

Ferrari Chat is really valuable for information

I got in touch in the Dutch section with somebody that considering to buy this car back in 2005/2006 but he did 'pass' ... Back in 2005/2006 was looking bad ... but it may had a good restoration in the last 5y which has been eclipsed from history ... or ... maybe they just put some lipstick on a pig ... and now after years they try to sell what was unsellable before
