Greetings All, after some maintenance on my 1990 348ts I experienced the following: The shop- (Replace Alternator Lower Support Bracket - Includes Bearing, Hub and Adjustment Screw) Remove & Replace Crank Shaft Sensors) Then the following occurred before I picked up the car: Warning lights came on. The shop-

(Perform Blink Code Retrieval for cylinders 1-4. Code 1114 for oxygen sensor. Inspect and test Ignition system for spark, injector operation, and fuel delivery. Found relay for RH fuel pump INOP. Clean with contact electrical cleaner and swap with rear defrost relay. Clear code from RH Motronic and road test. Engine is currently performing correctly) Ok I then picked up the car.

During the ride home the following occurred: The red Battery warning light came on. I noticed that it would go off on deceleration and reappear on acceleration. This occurred all the way home. (25 miles or so) As I entered my driveway both the yellow Cylinders 1-4, and Cylinders 5-8 warning lights came on. The car shuddered and stalled out!

I tried to restart, and it gave the dead battery rapped click-click-click. I checked the battery and found it to be low. After a recharge it started right up. However, the red battery light is still on. Given the above what do you think are the issue (s)? Should I replace, and clean all the relays? Alternator issues? Wouldn’t an alternator warning light have came on?

    Please help!

The alternator warning light is the battery light. Sounds like they messed up the alternator re-installation.

Thank you for your observations. I will start with that then. So, the car is running off the battery? The alternator is not properly charging?

I would invest in a cigarette lighter voltmeter. It should tell you if your alternator is putting out > 14volts.

There are so many things that can go wrong with the charging system. I suppose there could be something mechanically wrong with the connections if it comes on with acceleration (as mentioned, loose cables, belts, etc). Just look around your alternator for something obvious. Was the battery disconnected during maintenance?

I assume they mean the Check Engine light/s?

Yes, check engine light. The red Battery light on the dash warning light cluster. Yes, I assume the battery was disconnected during maintenance. I have a disconnect key. I have a trickle charge on it now. It reads fully charged!

Start car and with a voltmeter, read the voltage on, say, battery bus terminals in the engine bay (to ground)

See if anything changes if you rev your engine. I don't know if actual acceleration is causing your issue, or just engine rpms.

Check tightness of those terminals (with cutout switch in cutout).

Wow! Thank you for the diagram / photo this is very helpful! I will do this over the weekend as I am traveling. I'll report back as to my findings.

Again, thank you for your help.

    Sincerely
