I am slowly planning to buy my first Ferrari & am thinking of a 348TS. I would appreciate any advice about where in Europe one can find the best deal. I am currently living in Switzerland & 2nd hand/good condition ferraris can be found at a reasonable price here. However soon I'll be moving to the EU, probably Brussels. Any advice whether I'd be better off getting my 'baby' here then taking it to the EU (I am an EU citizen). I really would appreciate any advice any one can give me.

    Thanks folks

    Hi,

    1. Welcome to this board. You will find an answer to all your Ferrari related questions here. But fill out your profile first. Here at the Euro section we like to know who we are talking to.

    2. In Belgium it is easy to import a car from another European country. This means that you could basically look for your car throughout the whole of Europe. Did you take a look at www.mobile.de?
That site will give you a good indication of the price ranges and of what you can expect. Feel free to ask us our opinion about the different cars that you find. a 348 is a very good choice but there are some things that you have to know before you can buy a Ferrari.

    Good luck on your search.

btw, the cheapest price is DEFINITELY not the best price for a Ferrari!

    good advice ton...

You just have to know that for a 348 in good shape, you 'll pay between 40.000 and 50.000 euro...

You'll find some at nearly 35.000 euro but pay attention !

DOn't be focused on low kilometers, but on history of the car...

Thanks for your prompt & helpful replies guys. I plan my budget in fact to be up to EUR 50,000 & I do understand that in F-talk, cheapest-short term definitely spells out problems long term.

When one begins to start browsing around the price bracket for a good-condition F- soon becomes apparent, however, my main dfilemma is that with regard to ALL 2nd hand cars, prices are cheaper than average here in Switzerland - Ferraris & other exotics included.

Thus I was wondering where best to make the move, not to mention the fact that here in switzerland you really know what you are getting with the obsessively stringent laws they have re cars, history, condition ... etc.

I agree that cars look cheaper in Suisse. But the biggest European Ferrarimarket is Germany. There is a lot of competition.
I think that the best advice would be to take your time. Take a look at many different cars. You will learn from every car that you see.

    Stefan,

Before I bought my 348 in the UK - preferred a RHD car, I was looking into the Swiss market which looked the best prices.

Service History is very important as you will probably understand but the high cost items are the ones that hurt, which may still occur despite the cars age/condition. I know this from experience.

I suggest a few key points are:-

Understand when the last engine out service was done (inc belts). This should happen every 3 years so budget accordingly. Better to buy a cheaper car that is due, that one done a few years ago which may soon be due.

The clutch can go at anytime, regardless of service history. Try to understand when it was last changed. - budget 1000 UKP for the dual plate version for parts alone.

Look at tyre wear, disc wear, pad wear, these are all normal consumables even on a good car.

Check for oil leaks - these are common, especially cam shaft seals, and main oil feed pipes.

And finally - check the a/c works - it often does not.

    Good Luck

    John

    Stefan,

There is so much good advice on this board but still it will be difficult to buy your first Ferrari.
You must be strong enough to walk away from a car if the feeling is not good. For instance you will find many cars with low milage but with a worn interior. Walk away from those.
