I'm replacing the catalytic converters on a 1990 348TS (2.7 software) and want to pass smog in one shot. It is a California car and needs to pass the visual inspection before even getting hooked up to their computers, so the "CARB" number needs to be correct (possibly along with other visual items they may require that I don't know about). Does anyone know what catalytic converters I can use that will pass both the visual inspection AND the running tests?!? I need this to be a 100% legitimate solution that I can take to any SMOG shop and pass for sure, without having to try any 'funny business', so please, no mickey-mouse solutions. Thank you!

Perhaps verify that your existing Cats have
P/w stating that they are CA legal, and of course, being able to visually i.d. The cats.

Edit-- buy Cats that state they are CA legal in their p/w.

You need CARB OBDI compliant replacement catalytic converters like these Magnaflows:

    https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=332006

Note that these aren't drop-in; your muffler guy will need to weld in O2 and temp sensor bungs as well as connection brackets.

The CARB EO number for these is: D-193-117
Page 197 of this PDF lists the 348 as covered:

    http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-193-117.pdf

I'd bring a copy of the PDF and EO number when getting a smog done to resolve any questions the tech may have.
