Ive seen an awful lot of these... how'd they do that?? my top is like a plastic, and it has a rough textured finish. Are people sanding it smooth and then painting it? or is there another type of smooth metal or aluminum top out there? I would like to have the TB look for those few months of the year that I would have the top on...
I agree the painted top 'looks' far better IMO.... though some owners want to maintain 'originality'. So it is really up to you...
hmmm, well, I have a great ''hook-up'' for paint and body work... but even so, that sounds expensive! For $120K, it really should have come that way from the factory... but then again, I could make a mile long list of such things! lol
While I like the painted tops too, remember the aesthetic we love in 2007 was not the same as 1989. 308/328 didn't have painted tops either. If I'm a betting man, I'd venture we'll be running on white wall tires again one day too.
I have the painted sills and lower spoiler / bumper, but the targa is still factory black texture. I like it that way it never gets scratched up and is easy to maintain. I only drive with the top on about 10% of the time so it really is not worth the money or effort for me to change it. BT
I agree. I'd say the fad for body-colored everything will run its course. If you want to modify the car, I'd get a spare top and do the sanding/painting on that.
Well, part of the reason I asked, and was hoping the answer was sanding and painting the plastic was, the top that came with my car has some good sized chips missing in the left back corner. I assume its from previous owners either dropping it, or stowing it behind the seats in a rather violent manner. It is pretty obvious, and if I fix it with a strong enough material to hold, it would never match (color or texture) and will probably look worse than it does now. So I figured if it was paintable, i'd fix it up all pretty again, and paint it... problem solved!! If it was in mint condition, I could easily live with it being black in all honesty. Its only going to be on the car 2-3 months a year, and when I need to secure the car, I always carry it behind the seats. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree with PAP again. In fact, the more red, the better. Some day I'm going to paint my lower sills. Here is a rare shot of my car with the top on. It's in front of the Marriott when I went down to LA to meet PAP at the Ferrari chat awards banquet. The head valet told me to park it there. He said he didn't want a $100K car parked in the garage. I didn't bother to correct him . Bee Jay Image Unavailable, Please Login
Totally agree. The more red the better. My 90 had all the pieces painted, sills, top and engine trunk: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Engine trunk? Really? Can I get a picture of that? Every time I look at the engine cover, I think that Ferrari got it backwards. The venting/heat disapation part should be black, and the solid part should be red. Just my humble opinion. Bee Jay
I tend to agree with that statement, but honestly ive seen a few rear bonnets with the flat (black) part painted red... and I didnt care for it personally. No offense of course potxoli. I do agree that all the lower body panels should be red (like the SS), which mine already are. I'm taking my car to my paint guys this afternoon to discuss painting my roof panel... i'll letcha's know how that goes.
ok, just got back from the body shop, since they ''owe me one'' they're going to fix, sand & paint my top for $200, but I have to remove the mouldings etc. before I take it in. So i'm to drop it off next monday, and they asked for the better part of the week to get it done... so obviously they will work on it here and there, between doing other things. I should have my 4th F!&@$# wheel by then, so i'll be able to post pics of the whole new look of my ride... then my wallet gets a LONG and much needed break!
Perhaps if you donate yours to me, I will think about it. Nope, the 355 engine cover is the same colour as the car. Just like later 348's.
I believe the chin spoiler shown on Potxioli's car is from Valence, http://www.valenceusa.com/348/lip.htm, and costs $550 unfinished. I like their look wand was planning on making that the next addition to my car.
